I visited this facility

The people at Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley were fantastic. When we walked in the door for our tour, there was a sign welcoming us with my name on it. I was very impressed. There were two dogs there that day on the first floor that were very friendly and upstairs, there was a big fat cat in residence. It was nice. We went through and went into the lady's office first. She talked to us and told us a lot of things. Then we toured the rooms. We liked everything. It was well-kept and clean. They had an activity room. We saw the dining room and it looked very nice. I was pleased with it. My niece was with me and then I took my daughter and my husband to go through it. When I called to make some final decisions with them, they told me they couldn't take my husband, because of his ostomy, but we went through everything. I thought the floor was knocked out from underneath me. It just was terrible, but she apologized. She said that she knew they had somebody there five years ago who had an ostomy, and she just assumed they would, but as soon as her director said something, they said, "Oh no, we don't accept that anymore." Some of the staff have worked there for twenty five years, so that says a lot about the place. It was very comfortable and very well-kept.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is a resident of Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley. The choice was made because the availability was there. This facility mirrors the sentiments and the things that I saw in the communities that I liked where there is just real compassion for the people who are there and a willingness to meet them on their level. They try and connect with them instead of trying to make that individual connect with them. I only visited her once and I was there for about an hour and a half yesterday. I saw some true compassion. But only time will tell if that continues. My senses and my hope say that it will. Nonetheless, I was very pleased with the compassion and the staff, and just the calmness and the kindness with which they interacted with everybody. There were probably 20 residents in the secured facility and there were three or four helpers and a maintenance person, and they all knew each patient by name, and they spoke to them with respect and kindness. She's in the Shine memory care. She's just beginning to start to explore the food there. She wasn't eating, and I'm not sure why, but they asked me what she liked, and they're working with her to try and encourage her to eat. They're working hard to kind of appeal to her so that she starts to take some food and put a little weight on. The board had probably six activities slated throughout the day, maybe even more. My sister's experience in the other place was that she was forced to do things she didn't like. Nonetheless, the staff asked me yesterday what she likes, and I said she likes to be read to and she likes music. So, anything like that that they could do to connect to her like if they did a story time, she would be engaged. I can tell you, music from the sixties and seventies, when she was a young adult, would connect with her and I love seeing that. That's the kind of thing that gets her brain kind of active again. It's beautiful. This facility and the room that she's in are larger, brighter, and cleaner than what she had in the other place. It feels like home to her because she's got her own little bathroom, a little kitchen, a sofa area, and then a bed area. So, she feels like it's her apartment. I am very, very impressed with how everybody was when I walked in there yesterday.

My dad was at Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley for a little while. That place was dirty, but the employees were really nice and very good. When you first came in, the hallways seemed dark. He was supposed to be getting the level three assisted care, and he was actually getting level one. They weren't doing anything extra for him, like helping him down to the dining room and other stuff that we're expecting them to help him with. They had some activities, like bingo, but it seemed like they didn't have as many things going on during my dad's stay there. My sister said the food was OK.

I visited this facility

I toured Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley. I went first to see what it was like because I wouldn't put my friend somewhere where I wouldn't want to be and then I took her to see it too. I thought it was very nice, the people were pleasant and the staff was very nice. I liked everything about it. They had games and I loved the dining room, it was very nice. The room I saw was beautiful. I looked at assisted living. The COVID thing was there so they didn't have visitors or anyone sitting in the dining room. Everybody had just gotten their shots so they weren't having visitors sitting with people eating or anything. I thought the place was very clean and my girlfriend did too when I took her around. I just thought the people there were very pleasant. When I walked in from the parking lot, they greeted me good morning. Inside they were very, very nice as well. I wish I could afford to live there.

There is no “care” in the “Memory Care” unit. This place is where you put your loved one to rot away. The sales staff tell you about how they engage your loved one, but the reality is that their rooms are filthy, they don’t get proper medical care, and unless you personally are there every week to make sure your loved one is getting any kind of care beyond some food pushed in front of them, you’re being deceived. I can’t wait to move my father to a place that can actually take care of him. I think he’d be dead now if I hadn’t been following up on his care there. After Covid, when I was allowed into his room, it was beyond filthy, and he had been using his bath towels as toilet paper. I was told it was because he wouldn’t let the staff clean his room. While I was there, I had staff come in and clean his bathroom, and he was fine. I don’t understand how a facility can claim they give a patient meds, keep them clean, keep their room clean, and take care of their medical needs when they literally do none of that without being berated into doing so.

I toured Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley for my mom and they seemed very knowledgeable. They gave me the ratio right off. Another thing I liked about them is that they have a nurse on staff 24 hours a day, where the others that I toured did not. This facility was nice, and I just liked their programming. I saw the staff interacting with the residents. The place is nice and clean. I guess they're periodically renovating, or I should say upgrading some of the rooms. I saw a room that somebody was in at the moment, it was spacious, and they offer different things depending on the level that the person's at. I know they do things to keep their memory going, like they play games or a music type of therapy.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend moved into Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley. She definitely needed assisted living as she was falling. We checked several other places that were more expensive, so the value was quite good. They had a lock-in which was very attractive because she could lock into a price per month, and it will never go up. Whereas many of the places have 4% or 5% and some as high as 8% increases and that was an issue. So, she knows what her cost is in the future. Rittenhouse Village backs right up onto the fish hatchery grounds and so even though it is on Cedar Crest boulevard it is backed into the woods. It has a wonderful porch that they can sit out on. It is a huge, long porch, you can sit out and just watch nature. It has gardening facilities that you could help plant things all of which were really attractive to my friend. It has a very detailed and individualized care. It is not perfect, no place is. It is small, which really was very attractive. It is only three floors; the top floor is the memory care and the second and first floors are the regular people. Not everybody has assisted living, they have different levels of care, same assisted living but different levels of care. Right now, every other day they switch so people can go down and eat in the dining room. And then the next day, the other floor goes. Each floor has their own team of caregivers, so you don't have some stranger waking in to take care of you. Every day, you have the same people, and they are right there, and you can walk down and say, "Hi, how are you? I need a" or "tell me how to do blah, blah" and they do, it is that kind of personal care. The teams get along well with each other. The other thing about Rittenhouse Village is that the residents are very supportive of each other. I have been in assisted living places where people do not talk to one another. Not there, people are chatty, they talk to one another. My friend likes to walk and when the weather is nice, they go for walks right outside the door, they can go outside and walk around. A lot of the the assisted living don't have that. The staff is excellent because they are in teams and they really work together. If one team member cannot get to you, another team member just jumps in. Their food is extremely good, they have a choice of two things for your lunch and dinner. Plus, they have a list if you don't like either of those things, they have a normal list that you can choose instead which includes ham sandwiches, soup, and fruits that you can make a meal out of. My friend likes to have apple sauce with her oatmeal and the man who is in-charge of the restaurant came in and he said, "is there anything in particular that you like to have" so she mentioned and he said "oh fine, just write down apple sauce and after a while we will get used to you and whenever we serve you oatmeal, we will always give you apple sauce." They really try hard. It is smaller in size, so you really get to know everybody, and that was quite attractive. So, for people who would like that kind of atmosphere I think Rittenhouse is the best in the valley, as far as I am concerned. If you have 200 or 300 people, they may have more different events and stuff, but I would easily give them up in order to have events with people that I know. Some people might want different kinds of crafts and all that kinds of stuff that you get in some of the bigger places, but she really likes gardening. It is really easy to take walks outside, you can just sit out and watch the cardinals from the porch. It is big so lots of people can sit out there to chat and talk. It is more like living in a more natural, normal life. Normally they have events where they take you out and do things too, but they can't do that right now because of the pandemic. They have plenty of stuff to do inside. Right now, it is a little more expensive than some of the other places that we looked at. They have lowered their prices because of Covid and not having so many people, but their percentage of increase were pretty high. One other place was 8% per year. It wouldn't take long to become more expensive than Rittenhouse.

I did go down to Rittenhouse Village, which is a very nice facility. Jennifer was super nice. The overall atmosphere was just great. The facility was nice-looking and the rooms were nice and bright. They were re-doing the room that I saw. They had a beautiful porch outside. When I went there, it was a nice day and I just felt like sitting down and relaxing on their beautiful covered porch. It was really nice.

My father moved into Rittenhouse Village at Lehigh Valley, and my mother is due to move in in soon. So far, it's fine. I like that it's on the small side. It's a little easier to get accustomed to. The people I've dealt with are very helpful so far. His room seems fine. It's a nice, quiet setting. It's kind of off the beaten track, so it doesn't have a lot of things going on, on the outside, for distraction. He seems to be OK with the food. The facility seems very nice and clean, has a nice layout, and everything's convenient. It's like going into a hotel.

We did an in-person tour at Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley, but we stayed outside the whole time. We sat on a patio, and it was nicely-kept. The areas that I could see through the windows were nice and clean. The staff member who gave the tour was very informative and very understanding with the questions and concerns that I had. There were no visitors, and if it came to the point of visiting, it would be a half-hour visit with the resident on the patio, with a no-touch policy, and should only be once a week.

I saw both the assisted living and memory care of Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley for my mother-in-law. I like what I saw. The location would have been much more convenient for everyone to visit her. The people that we met there were very nice; however, I wasn't there long enough to see their activities. I like this place. Their apartments were very nice. Some of them were 2-bedrooms. I did not see any locked doors within the memory care.

My mother-in-law is now at Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley. It is clean. The dining room is upscale. I don't really have anything bad to say about it as yet other than the nursing staff responding to the call bell at night is a little slow. Other than that, I'm really very happy with it. My mother-in-law goes to bingo, and when they have musical entertainment, she goes to that, too. They also have some crafty entertainment. The apartment is lovely and spacious. I'm happy with that. The bathroom is very nicely handicapped accessible. However, my mother-in-law has lactose intolerance and it has been a little bit hard for them to keep up with that.

Beautiful place! Bright, clean, tastefully decorated. Staff is amazing, caring, genuinely concerned about your family members wellbeing. The communication is spot on. The call bells are answered immediately. I cannot say enough about how much we love this place. My father is happy, well taken care of, and we have piece of mind knowing he is safe, comfortable, and treated with respect and love.

Rittenhouse Village At Lehigh Valley was very personable, very professional, and caring. The woman who took me around was very kind. She knew the residents we ran into by name. She made a point to stop for a minute to see how they were. It felt good. I really wanted to move my dad there. My first impression of the place was excellent. The staff was very professional but still kind, warm, and welcoming. I love the layout of the rooms. It was immaculate. She said they were going to renovate two of the rooms, (the bistro and the dining room). They were going to upgrade them, and I thought they're already looked beautiful, but she said they're getting older so they were going to upgrade them to make them look a little bit fresher.

I am a friend of a resident. She's been there for several years and loves it. The staff are kind and responsive to her needs. She needs a lot of help. If you have a loved one who needs a place I strongly recommend this community!

It was gorgeous, close to the hospital, and had a cute dog that walked around. However, it was too far from us. It seemed a little more upscale and had fancy napkins on the table. The staff I talked to was very nice, confident, and caring.

We visited several places, but my aunt favored this community. It was so much nicer. It was very clean. The people were nicer also and they were more professional. The residents themselves were so friendly. The rooms were a very nice size. They had a nice bathroom with a shower. They had a little efficiency kitchen in them even though they had the dining room downstairs. Their dining area was very bright and cheery. It reminded you of a beautiful hotel. When we came there around 10:30 in the morning, there were quite a few things going on and I thought that was pretty good. They were baking a cake and some were talking about religion. I would go there.

The community is wonderful. The food is fabulous, and the staff is OK. My mother-in-law needs little to no care. They've been OK. It's been better since she has adjusted. She has mild dementia, so she really thinks of it as home now. She's very happy. They have daily exercise activities, pet therapy, and outings to different restaurants and different department stores. They have very nice socials.
