About Abode Care of Allentown in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Home Is Right Around The Corner

Conveniently located off I-78/309 and nestled between Allentown, Bethlehem, Salisbury, and Emmaus, our Mountain View community is currently licensed for up to 150 residents. Mountain View has been serving the needs of the community since the 1980s, and was one of the first Senior Living in the Lehigh Valley. Mountain View has continued to grow through the years to meet the needs of various owners and the customers they served.

Our Accomodations

We have an assortment of room options, from large private apartments to smaller semiprivate quarters. Mealtimes are spent in one of our 2 large dining rooms, and all the meals are prepared on-site. Relax in the Bistro with hot or iced tea while overlooking a beautifully landscaped enclosed courtyard. Take your pick of the many activities available in the home, or sign up for some of the trips off-site for even more fun.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

We have a smaller enclosed 18-bed unit inside of our home specifically for those who have dementia or Alzheimers. Memory Lane has its own dining and activity area, as well as a private fenced courtyard planted to please all the senses. A smaller area is better for people with dementia because these patients may tend to get lost easily or wander . The smaller unit makes it easier for those residents to go where they want to safely, without being overwhelmed.

Life at Mountain View

Come make new friends during meals in the spacious dining rooms. Sip on a cup of coffee in the bistro or dance to some Big Band music with your honey in the lounge. Morning worship is offered every day, with several local churches visiting our residents and offering denominational services regularly. Wednesday afternoons offer an opportunity to share snacks and drinks during Happy Hour, although we never limit happy to only one hour. On Movie Night, we revisit the Hollywood classics and stars of yesteryear. Many residents enjoy BINGO, card games, or other games, and they enjoy it more when they WIN! Our wheelchair-accessible bus takes residents on local shopping, dining, and casino trips and more! Weve also started some community service projects, including collecting BoxTops for our local school children, and making home-made treats for our four-legged friends at the local animal shelter.

What Makes Us Special

Pendants

Our residents are assigned a pendant to wear when they move in. This pendant can be pressed to request assistance from the staff, and is linked to the residents room number.

Bathroom & Shower Call Stations

Our bathrooms and shower rooms are equipped with emergency call stations, easily activated by pulling a cord, to summons the staff quickly.

Wander Guard System

On admission, residents are assessed for level of supervision required. A wander guard wrist or ankle alarm is given to appropriate residents, which then sets off an audible alarm if that person crosses an alarmed door.

Pager system

Our direct care staff (called PCAs) carry pagers, which notify them of pendant calls, emergency calls, or wander guard alerts. With this system, all the staff can rapidly respond to calls and emergencies.

Fire Safety

If the unexpected happens, our building is equipped with a fire alarm system with pull stations and extinguishers located throughout the home. We also have a building-wide sprinkler system, and full fire suppression system in our kitchens.

All staff are trained about fire prevention and evacuation on their first day, and at least annually afterward. Finally, our building has monthly fire drills, which everyone (staff and residents) is required to participate in.

I visited this facility

Rooms small, but ok. Did not see any food nor smell any being prepared. Dining room sparse. Did not see area for crafts or bingo for residents. Did not like the smell of the place upon entering!

I visited this facility

Abode Care of Allentown is not a place I would send my loved one to. There were a bunch of people hanging out at the front, so you couldn't get to where you needed to go. You walk into the place, and it smelled. The residents there seemed like they were just walking around doing whatever, and there was no staff to do anything with them. Their idea of an activity was to give you a baby doll to take care of or watch a movie. I was not impressed at all. The tour was horrible because the staff didn't really explain anything to us. When we went to where the memory care unit is, there was some woman who was yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs right at the door. The tour guide didn't do anything to get rid of her. Here was this woman yelling and screaming, and I didn't want her punching me. Some dementia and Alzheimer's patients are mean and violent. This woman screaming at the top of her lungs worried me. She was trying to block us from going in. It didn't impress me at all. The rooms were tiny and dark. They would provide a bed, a table, a little couch, and a lamp. They provide quite a bit for the room. The furnishings were good. The rooms were small. The dining area was great. It was a nice big area with clean tables.

I visited this facility

The assisted living facility that we would go to would probably be Abode Care of Allentown. What we liked most was the interaction between the staff and the residents. As we were going around, the staff member who was taking us on a tour stopped and talked to the residents. She seemed to know them all by name. One of the residents, when she heard that we were looking at places for my mother, said, 'Oh, you have to come here. It's great. It's wonderful.' So the residents like it. Along the way one of the residents was having a personal crisis, so she stopped and she took care of that issue. It was the interaction between the staff and the residents that appealed to us most. It was a little bit older than some of the other facilities that we had toured, but it was clean, and it was nicely arranged. The rooms were a nice size. The staff was very knowledgeable about the facility. She interacted well with the residents. She had a very good balance of seeing our needs and seeing to the residents' needs as we toured the facility. We saw the eating area, but we were not there during mealtime. They had shower schedules, the rooms were a nice size, and the facility was well kept up and clean.

I visited this facility

I did a tour of Abode Care of Allentown. What I liked best was the location. It was hidden away, but still very easily accessible. They had a nice, enclosed garden area. My only issue with it was that the rooms were very small. Their staff was nice overall. They had senior day outs, where they would take the seniors to different places around Allentown or the surrounding areas as a group. They did bingo nights, happy hours, and a bunch of different fun activities for the seniors to get together and make friends.

My mother is here. The staff are very caring with their patients. They make sure that they are taking care of the residents. It’s a nice and cozy facility with a fireplace with chairs. The place is also very clean. The food is all right.
