People were really friendly and helped us a lot. They were great with our family all being there for our loved ones. Gave us plenty of time to spend with our loved ones that passed away.I would want my loved one to be there.

I looked at everything there in Anchor Lodge Retirement Village. I looked at everything they had. It's very nice. The people are very nice and it's a lovely place. It's on the shore of Lake Erie, and visions of the lake are rare. I live on the shore of Lake Erie, and consequently, there was some connection there, but I just liked it. The folks that I met were very nice, but it's their job to be nice. The dining area was a room full of tables. We were there in the morning. We walked through it, and we looked at whatever she pointed out. I just had a good feeling about it. They seemed to be doing a nice job. I only met one person, and she was very nice. The building is not new, but it is very nice and well looked after.

Anchor Lodge Retirement Village is a nursing home/assisted living facility. It's beautiful. It probably has the prettiest scenery of the street because it looks right on the lake. Lake Erie is right outside the dining room windows. When you walk into it and you walk into the dining hall, it overlooks the lake, and it's gorgeous. However, when you walk in that main door to get into that part of the building, and if you were to make a sharp left, you would end up right in the nursing home, and you could smell the nursing home through the door. It smelled more like an institution. Anchor Lodge was nice. The apartment that my parents would be in is really pretty. There's a sunroom. It is brick, but then it has three sides of windows. It's bright and sunny. It's under a tree so that there's not too much sunshine coming in the window, but it is much sunnier. It has baseboard heaters, so they could use it all year round and not just in the summer, but that gave them four rooms. It gave them a sunroom, their bedroom, their living room, and then the bathroom. But as far as other amenities, there's no place to wash dishes, so the amount of food and stuff they'd be able to have in their room to do their own thing if they didn't want to go down to the dining hall was limited. There was a refrigerator and a microwave, but not much counter space like the kitchen area. They did have bigger closets and a much nicer bathroom. All those things were very nice for somebody who was going to go from assisted living right into a nursing home, it is a great place. There are more stimulations for my dad than he has where he is now. Being by the lake, they do have lots of activities. They have lots of fun things that they bring in. Even when COVID hit, they didn't lock everybody up in their rooms, people were still visiting from room to room. They prevented outside visitors, but inside visiting was still allowed. They didn't make them an institutionalized setting. The big plus with Anchor Lodge is that it's only 2 miles from me, so I would still be able to get to my mom and dad within five minutes. The facility itself was about a 3 only because of the nursing home's odor, it was an institution. I did try some food there and that was good.

My mom was in Anchor Lodge for a couple of weeks, but she got sick, we had to take her to the hospital, and she passed. Everything was excellent. I picked them because they had really good rehabilitation. They did have activities like singers coming in and performing, and they played bingo. It was a beautiful lake setting, the people were very friendly and caring, and the rooms were very nice, but she didn't like the food.
