Bethany Village is an excellent facility. They have great people and they take care of my wife. The food is good and the facility is outstanding. I consider it to be the best place in this area. It is expensive, but I'm really satisfied with what they have done for us. My parents were also there and her parents were there. It is just a very good, solid organization. The staff is very helpful and they have a real good attitude. They do anything I've asked them to do. They list the activities they have for the day and they also have a social worker that goes around and works with the residents. That social worker always does my wife's fingernails. Then they have a conference once a month with the caretakers to get their input. So, they're very well-organized.

My mom is living in a long-term care facility called Bethany Village in Dayton. She started out in rehab, went to assisted living, and then she went back into rehab. After that, we waited for an opening and went to long-term care. The unit that she's in now is a bit dated. It's a shared bathroom, so it's just a small room, big enough for a bed, two chairs, and a dresser. The facility itself is beautiful from the outside, it's well-manicured, and landscaped. Initially, the person I dealt with was excellent. She's the business manager who assists people with admissions. She was wonderful up until my mom got in. After that, it's very hard to know who I was supposed to deal with. There are so many people, it's overwhelming, and the communication is not as good as it could be. I've seen the food on my mom's plate and it's average. They had a lot of activities briefly before they went back into lockdown. They have an activities coordinator and they have a schedule of daily activities, shows, movies, and they have outings for people who are in assisted living. They're just starting to let people come visit again. On the floor that my mom is on, I don't see any amenities, but there's a common area where you can sit. I've only been going for about a week and a half that they've allowed us in. I know my mom has asked to have a regular kind of bath and a sit bath, and they've taken her there a couple of times. It's been broken and it hasn't been fixed; we've been waiting to try and get a regular bath. That's something she would like to do. It's $12,000 a month and that's an awful lot of money. It's my first real experience with any facility, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I would say that it's kind of expensive for what she's getting. I think that they need to really improve on their communication between the family and the teams. They have their own agenda, they want to do what they want to do, and I don't know that they really want to listen to the family. We have a large family so a lot of people go visit, and a lot of people are involved, so we try to have one person be the spokesperson to kind of be the one that they communicate and share information with, but they've just been very inconsistent. You come in and one team knows, and then you come in another day and they haven't been told. I think communication is the most dominant area that they need to improve on.
