We are a family owned, 16 bed facility conveniently located across the street from Alliance Community Hospital and a block from Mt. Union College. The owner, Sherry Groom, RNC. has over 20 years experience as a psychiatric nurse and teacher (Sherry is available for educational speaking engagements in the community) and she is involved in the daily operation of The Villa Maria; and our staff is specially trained and certified in Mental Health Care. Everything we do is designed to bring as much quality of life to our residents in an atmosphere of dignity, respect and love.
It is our goal to have the very best dementia care facility, and to provide nothing but the very best care possible for our residents, and we hope that the information we provide for you on this website helps you in your decision making. We are always here to assist you in any way we can, so please contact us with any question you might have.
We understand that dementia, regardless of which forms it takes, or what stage it is in, is a very devastating disease for everyone that is touched by this still little understood ailment. Knowing this we approach every resident and each of their family members with respect, dignity, compassion and love.

- Special Comment: The Villa Maria was designed with a floor plan that is open, logical, and uncomplicated. The easier it is to understand a place, the quicker someone with limited ability can master it.The mastery of a home leads to a greater sense of control, confidence, and maximizes the resident's ability to function.The luminosity (amount of light) is great enough to compensate for the yellowing of the cornea that we associate with aging. Lighting should also be indirect to minimize glare and eliminate harsh shadows. Shadows can be misleading to the cognitively impaired.
