Brookdale Salem Ohio

Brookdale Salem Ohio is like a ranch facility. Everything was on the first floor, which was nice because my mom couldn't walk very well. So, that's perfect. No steps to worry about. They are more casual there because as soon as we pulled into the parking lot, the gardener greeted us, and asked us who we were and why we were there. We told him about why we were there and he said "Oh yeah, follow me!" and he took us in through the back door into the main facility. Then he took a straight up to the administrator's office that we were there to see. He goes, "I'll have you wait here and I'll go get her." So, we were sitting there in her office and it was interesting how we got to do this because usually you have to produce an ID and all that kind of stuff but we didn't have to do that there. The administrator was wonderful because she was a trained nurse. She had been nursing for at least 15 years with senior citizens. She also was one of the directors there, not the main director. That was one of the first facilities we saw and she did a clear job of explaining to us what to look for and what we saw there. She says "Now, here's how you will compare to other places you see. When you start comparing it, you're going to see this is one of the best places you could ever be for your mom." We agreed with her. We saw several others that were like, "Yeah, yeah, she's right." and we wanted to go there. The only thing that stopped us from going there was the distance. It was 17 miles from me and I don't drive. The facility was good. They got medium-sized rooms and they're well furnished. There is a lot of ambiance to the matching bedspreads and the window curtains. It was like a well-coordinated room. The interior decorator did a fantastic job. There were a lot of chairs and places to sit because a lot of people when they're walking down the hall, they may get tired and they might want to just stop and sit somewhere. They have little nooks or crannies on the wall where they could do that. The kitchen was at one particular end of the building and we saw people going into the kitchen who hadn't been there for breakfast. They were just going down to the kitchen when they wanted to, and they didn't seem to have any problem with that. They serve breakfast for maybe 2.5 hours in the morning for the ones that actually came to meal all the time and then the cook would just handle the short orders for those that would arrive later. So, I thought they were very versatile. There was also a lot of choice. They figured not everybody wants the same thing every day. So, it was almost like you were in a restaurant ordering there.

Brookdale Salem Ohio was very good. It was very, very nice. The only thing was the distance, that's why we didn't go there. They had an enclosed courtyard. They showed us the rooms, and they were very nice. They had different levels as far as space goes.

We moved into Brookdale Salem Ohio two days ago. I like the small community and the friendliness of the community. So far, so good. Our room looks like a college dorm room. The food is edible.

I like the friendliness of Brookdale Salem, and I just got a good feel about it. I have an African grey parrot, and they were very encouraging of bringing him. Katrina was outstanding: very friendly, very accommodating, and just amazing. The halls are nice and wide, though the apartment was a little on the small side.

Brookdale keeps us informed very well. They let us know immediately if something is happening with my mom. So in saying that I would like to be more informed on how the employee family of Brookdale is doing. They're our family too. We miss them, worry about their wellbeing and if they're taking care of themselves. WE LOVE YOU BROOKDALE EMPLOYEES!!!. YOU ARE GOD`S CHOOSEN ANGELS. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!!!

I don't have even 1 complaint about Brookdale or the staff. We choose the one bedroom with a small living room and studio size kitchen. Mom was able to bring some of her own furniture and lamps,curtains and pictures. My mom said she doesn't need big spaces ;just private and very comfortable. She said "We did Good." My suggestion to anyone who has this decision to make, Is to look at at least 5 nursing homes near you that take care of ALL YOUR NEEDS and know you will probably have to compromise on some of your wants. Ask people you know if they have any information on any of the nursing homes you're looking at. Get to know the staff and visit often
