I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mom has moved into Legacy at Grande'Vie. It seems to be a nice place. She's got friends there. It seems to be very pleasant, and they take care of her pretty well. She likes the place. She is dying to get back home, but she can't be left unsupervised. She is kind of resistant to not being in her house, and that's about the only real problem with it. My mom doesn't complain about Legacy at Grande'Vie. The people are very happy and attentive. She seems very, very cheerful. As long as she's not thinking about home, she seems to be happy, active, and whatnot, so she is doing fine. Their food seems decent; it seems to be OK. With regards to the building itself, it's got some wear and tear on it, but it's clean. They seem to have some activities going on down there. They have a courtyard, benches, and a nice sitting place. The place looks spotless. The exit could use a little hallway carpet, but that's about it.

I visited this facility

I toured Legacy at Grande Vie twice. It wasn't as clean as the other communities, they were starting to do some remodelling which I understand. I'm very disappointed with their meal service. The elderly have some recall issues, and they asked them to pick their meals the night before, so we're eating at our table and people don't remember what they ordered. And then they're coming around asking the residents what they want tomorrow night. The food quality wasn't all that good, they didn't have what I ordered. So we were disappointed with this place and it's now off our list. The staff who helped me out during the tour was very good, she was great and her name's Melissa. In terms of activities, they have a happy hour going on and it looked like they were engaged. They were remodelling an apartment in December when I was there, I knew it was the holiday season but when I went back in January nothing really had been done. They got the carpets laid in the hallways which was fine and neat, but it's different. The laundry situation wasn't great, it was very hot in that room and there didn't seem to be good ventilation.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. Please know that we greatly value your opinion and are sorry to see your experience wasn’t 100% positive. We’d love to have you back for a complimentary lunch and tour once the remodeling is done and we do apologize for the untidiness that you experienced. As for your compliments to the staff and those you’ve mentioned, we’ll pass along your kind words, and we’re glad to see some of our high standards did show through during your time at the community. Rooms aren't always clean. When my mother left the place you will find meds on the floor under the furniture. Staff is changing all the time so very hard to get to know who is who. Some of the staff are very hard on the patience so you will see bruises too often. Sunday's are very short on staff so do not expect your loved ones to be taken care of. Activities are not that great. Also you will smell urine a lot. Not good.

Provider Response

I am sorry to hear your experience was not all positive. We are committed to 100 percent satisfaction. Please call me at any time to discuss your feedback and suggestions for improvement in greater detail. Sincerely, Erica Dietz, Executive Director

We were not pleased with Legacy at Grande'Vie. It was good the first year my mother was there, but then they were bought out by a corporation and things went downhill pretty badly pretty quickly. They contract out for all of their staffing, nurses as well as aides, so there's constant turnover. They don't pay well, so that's the kind of employees you get. There was no oversight by management, so the level of care was very poor toward the end, to the point where there were health and safety issues. We got my mother out of there as quickly as we could find a placement for her. They have a whole schedule of activities, but my mother has memory issues and nobody would take her to them. She didn't have the wherewithal to wheel herself down three hallways to the one area that they had some activities. They would have Bingo, they would do current events discussion, and read the newspaper together, but it was only accessible to the higher-functioning clientele that were more mobile and had fewer memory issues. She really didn't get to take part in any of that. She was in the enhanced assisted living area.

Provider Response

We always strive for high levels of customer satisfaction and we’re sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. I have shared your review with our entire team and I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience by phone or in person to learn more. Sincerely, Lidija Gonzalez, Associate Executive Director

The assisted living is ok. The memory care side is horrible. Would not recommend it to even my worst enemy. We were deceived by what we were told of the care he was going to receive. They were going to charge me $1200 more a month and get LESS care. My dad was there for only a few hours and fell three times because their staffing sucks . No one was watching him. I do not recommend it. Stay away!!!!

Grande'Vie is without a doubt the greatest senior living community there is. My mother has been a resident in the assisted living facility for over 5 years and it has been wonderful. She lived on her own until 87 and then dementia forced her move to assisted living. We researched and visited many places but nothing remotely compared to Grande'Vie. The admission person was so helpful but never pushy. My mom was happy there right from the start. The staff is incredible. Medical staff always keeps me up on things. Activities staff is amazing. Every employee I have seen is incredibly nice and helpful. There are things to do from morning till night and always new and creative stuff. I usually find my mom in the activities area when I visit. My mom loves the food and again they keep the meals varied and healthy. There is always an option if the resident doesn't like what the main course is. That's incredible. When my mom moved in the stress level of her living on her own completely went away and she is so happy not to have to worry about so many day to day things that Grande'Vie provides for. She has many friends there both residents and staff and she always tells us how much she loves the staff and her life there. I wish all seniors could find a place in their latter years like my mom found in Grande'Vie. Thank you Grande'Vie.

Whats not to love with Grande'Vie Senior Living Community? We are treated like royalty, served wonderful meals three times a day, have our rooms cleaned, our beds changed, our laundry done and our medical needs tended to. But more importantly the staff, the nurses and the aids are wonderful to us always taking care of us and stopping to talk to us with smiles. They are genuinely here for us and I am told by them that is their reward. I wouldn't live anywhere else! Sincerely, Nancy

My Grandmother loves it at Grand Vie. We took a tour in November and she began living there this January. She found friends right away in activities. Shes sure to make it down to bingo everyday. She also loves the day trips they take, it gives her a chance to get some fresh air and get her shopping done. We did think the rooms were a little on the small side when we first came. However for the amount of time shes in her room its more than sufficient. She hasn't complained at all about the food and loves that she can sit in the dinning room and eat with all her friends. The staff are all very nice and they seem to know the residents well. All in all we are having a great experience so far with Grande Vie. Its nice to know my Grandmother is taken care of and gives us a piece of mind knowing that she enjoys it there so much.

Everything at Grand Vie was satisfactory. I was looking for a friend. For medical and financial reasons, it was adequate for his needs. The people were very good. The rooms were satisfactory. Generally, the atmosphere seem good. We did have lunch there, which was adequate. We did not decide to pursue Grand Vie.

I visited Grande'Vie. To me, it seemed quite old and dated. I didn't care for that facility at all. It seemed really dark and smelly. However, the staff was very nice. They're accommodating and pleasant. They were very nice.

I visited this facility

Toured this place, and was extremely disappointed for the following reasons: The rooms are tiny and dark. They have no closets, and are strangely-shaped. The layout is really quite spread-out for elderly people to navigate. They have only a 2-tier setup, and when somebody suddenly goes from "assisted" to "enhanced assisted", the price jumps astronomically. The "enhanced assisted" part was about the most depressing and soul-crushing place I've seen since I once saw a state-run facility 30 years ago. I also get the feeling that the Legacy communities are 'pushing out' older residents to this location, since they are owned by the same company. The only positive I could see for this facility is the price, provided that the person needs very little assistance. For those who are borderline ingident, they also offer 2-person rooms, where, if your loved one doesn't mind sharing a room the size of a dorm room with another adult, he/she can live there for probably only a bit more than SS will pay for. Other than that, the only other reason I could see sending a person here was if they need the locked "memory care" facility that is offered.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Our mom was accepted by the Intake Coordinator at Grandevie Penfield as a long-term care resident after being discharged from a hospitalization and a resulting rehab stay for bone repair surgery from a previous fall. She was discharged from rehab and accepted at Grandevie as a 1-assist resident who needs hands-on supervision when ambulating. After living at Grandevie for approximately 18 hours, we got a call that mom had fallen again and she was on the way to the hospital with a hip injury. She returned to Grandevie after her hospitalization and 3rd rehab stay about 3 weeks later. After being back for less than 48 hours we got another call from Grandevie that she had fallen again and was on her way to the hospital in an ambulance. After imaging studies and observation, she was sent back to Grandevie the following day. Three days later, mom fell for a 3rd time and required hospitalization, surgery and a 4th rehab stay. While at Grandevie, she was hospitalized 3 times for 3 falls in less than 1 month. We moved her out.

My family member was at the high level assisted care wing. I was not very impressed. Some of the staff was very caring, but weekend and night staff was not hired with care. My relative fell over 10 times in a month. Food was almost inedible and not very nutritious for elderly people. This was very expensive for the level of care provided. Showers were not regular. After a month, we moved my relative out.

My mother has been at Grande Vie going on four years. It was hard for her to get use to living in a facility at first. I'm right around the corner so I was able to be an active part of my moms care. I am thankful everyday to have such caring compassionate people watching over my mom. New management has improved the decor which was dated but only because the building has been around for over 30 years. I'll take 30 years experience over a new building that looks nice but has no experienced staff any day. My mothers residence has had its bumps but overall I cannot say enough good things. Keep up the good work!

I was very disappointed with the care that my family member received there. The aides were very slow to answer bells, the food was always cold and not appetizing. When you needed prn meds you waited at least 30 minutes. The weekend staff was not caring and very cold. Showers were supposed to be 2 times a week but were just weekly and then the staff lied to us about that. For the price this facility should have been excellent but was not. There was supposed to be assistance to dining but was pushed in wheelchair as they were too busy to walk with resident.

My mother is not really ready for a nursing home, because mentally she is pretty sharp, so we took her to Grande'Vie. We looked around and this is the place we liked the most, and they did have the enhanced assisted living. Eventually, we would want to move her into just regular assisted living once she is evaluated some more by the nursing staff and the rehabilitation people. It strikes me that the staff is pretty good, but some of them are a little bit lax; like in the separate dining room for enhanced assisted living people, they are a little slow because the food has to come from another kitchen and sometimes the coffee is a little cold and that kind of stuff, but other than that the nursing staff is excellent. They clean the rooms once a week, clean and wash the sheets once a week, and I would say the sanitation is very good.

The Legacy seems like a pleasant place. The room is just a bed and one of those closets so you can put your own things. It’s small, but that’s all my mother can afford. Part of the issue was the cost. It looked clean from what I could see. It’s medium sized. It’s not real new, however, they may have done some remodeling a little bit from the outside. There are field trips and transportation. They did tell me they have quite a bit of recreation. There was a beauty salon. It has a little store, and I think that’s nice for when they run out of toiletries and maybe ice cream.

I was not pleased with their representative Tammy. She came to talk to our resident then after less than an hour with her made the determination she was independent not an assisted living candidate. She also told resident that Grand Vie had a hospice program on site as her health declined. This is not true - Grand Vie may partner with another facility for hospice but they do not provide hospice care. I am aware of this because one of my staff's mother went to live at Grand Vie because they too told, by someone named Tammy, that hospice would be provided. When her Mother's health declined and she needed hospice she was moved to another facility. Grand Vie may be a wonderful facility but with misrepresentation by this Tammy person it gets forgotten.

Grande'Vie Enhanced Assisted Living may seem a little "cold," but it is a far cry better than a Nursing Home. The dining area is open and surrounded by the Nurses/Aides station as well as two TV lounges. The openness of the area gives the workers a position to monitor the residence...as they typically need more assistance than those in the Assisted Living area. Some need ambulation or transfer help, some need food cut for them, etc. The aides, who know the residents very well, are also the servers...which enables them to know and give individualized care and attention...even during meals. The rooms are small....with a private bathroom and shower. There are a few larger rooms that have a small kitchenette space. Again, we are talking about Enhanced Assisted Living...a separate certification from Assisted Living....for those who need more hands-on care. The activities area is shared by those in both Enhanced and Assisted Living areas.

We visited Grand Vie twice. We could just not put Mom in there. I wasn't impressed. It was not conducive, and I didn't find them inviting. It did not give the impression of being really clean. The setup was that she has to go to one room for dinner that was just an empty room with linoleum and tables and wasn't like a dining room. The rooms were unfriendly. I couldn't make them feel like home. Things were unfriendly and felt cold. They're just rooms. We walked out of there. We can't do it to my mother, and we took her home.
