My husband has dementia with Lewy body and severe Parkinsonism. I am his sole caregiver. For months I had been looking for desperately needed respite care. It is difficult to find short-term care in general and more so for his condition--even though he is still very social and only mildly impaired mentally. One day I was talking to an acquaintance and she told me her grandmother was currently a resident at Hillcrest and that they had a day club called Mable Rose. I immediately contacted them and took my husband for a free day visit. It was a godsend. He's been enrolled there ever since. The hours are M-F 8:00 - 6:00. You can drop off and pickup anytime. My husband usually goes around 9:00. He gets a great hot breakfast. The day is filled with activities, games, music, visiting animals, exercise, mystery bus rides, celebrations of birthdays, etc. The food is excellent and a weekly menu is provided so I know what his choices will be and we can discuss in advance. There's always two mains to choose from. And dessert. I cannot overstate the excellence of the staff. They are loving people doing a difficult job. They are well-trained, endlessly caring and joyful. Their manager, Angie Cappellano, is a wonderful source of information and solace. I honestly don't know how I would have been able to keep my husband home with me for this long if it hadn't been for Mable Rose. Without reservation, I recommend Hillcrest Mable Rose.

I toured Hillcrest Mable Rose. They're part of a larger community in this area called Hillcrest, and that facility is not known to be quite as stellar when it comes to response time. The staff was not as professional. He was fairly new, and the turnover is also indicative of poor facilities. The one thing I will say, and a positive thing about Mable Rose is they are one of the only communities in this area that have an adult daycare.

I wouldn’t leave a gerbil there, after my loved one’s experience. My relative who resided in the memory care unit was gravely injured while under their “care.” We’re talking multiple broken bones and a brain injury. My report of her case to Adult Protective Services (the abuse/neglect hotline) led to a lengthy investigation and was SUBSTANTIATED. Meanwhile, the staff seemed to circle the wagons and initially refused to speak to us about what happened. There’s so much more to the story, none of it good. We could not get her out of there fast enough. She’s doing well now — far away from this place. Hillcrest should be spelled with an e, not an i. Horrendous experience.

We chose Hillcrest Mable Rose for my mother because, from the different research I did, it's one of the best out there, and it's only gonna be a little over five miles from me, so I'll be close by. I highly recommend it to everyone. They have the memory care there too, so as she gets worse with her Alzheimer's, she won't have to go to a different place. I felt that they were very kind and considerate when I met them. They really care about Mom, and the administrator says that my mom is a great fit there, too. They provide three homemade meals a day, and they have activities. Everything is included in the price, whereas a lot of other places that stuff was extra. They're very kind, considerate, and loving to everybody, and to me, for my mom to get the care that she needs means a lot. I feel that that's one of the best places there in that area.

IT IS NOT MABLE ROSE ANYMORE. Since Hillcrest bought them out it has been downhill all the way. My Mom has been there for 5 grueling years. complained about her a/c not working for all of them. always being assured that it was fixed. it wasn't. they go on about how wonderful my mom is. she isn't. she is a cranky and difficult so I suppose she should have her stuff taken from her to give to the nicer old people. you would think something as simple as a regular podiatrist visit would be doable. no they expected my Mom to show up in a certain room at a certain time and if she missed her apt it was her fault. she has dementia if she could handle that she wouldn't be there. She has fallen many many times. I ask where her cane and walker are and they scramble to other rooms searching for the expensive medical supplies I have provided for her. Not for them to hand out as they see fit. one and the 250.00 walker have not been replaced. they gave her a cheap crappy walker and thought I should be ok with that. I was also told by Lisa the administrator that if I moved my mom to the memory support side there would be no more out of pocket expense, another lie. they just wanted her room and for her to pay 2,000 more a month for nothing. the memory support side is like a military camp. and the residents appear scared to move. I would not recommend this place to anyone who loves their loved one. it has been a extremely stressful experience and if my Mom wasn't so close to the end. I would take her someplace else. I loved it there when it was Mable Rose since Hillcrest stepped in is when the nightmare began. Please run run like the wind and find someplace else. I give them no stars. typical that I was forced to give them 1 or could not submit.
