My mom was a resident of The Glenn of Minnetonka. They had one side assisted, and then the others at the other side of the hall. When you got off you, you felt like people were separated. The staff, as far as the nurses, they were good. They were very attentive and were able to work together to help her. The only thing I didn't care about was the separation of the Independent and the assisted sides of it, but the rooms were very nice. The thing I liked about them that's different is the assisted amenities. They had house cleaning, and the house cleaning also came with two loads of wash a week. That was nice, and that was included in the price; that's different from other places. It's very new and well-maintained. The only issue I had, that would probably not give it a five-star is the administration, the people down in the office. The janitors there were so sweet, whenever I needed something done to help with, whether it be the TV or something fixed, they were very generous, always there, and very helpful. The place is clean, it didn't have any strong smells. If there's something that needed to be fixed, it was done right away. They have a nice little common area down on the main level there. It's not very big. One of the things that they don't have, that I didn't like, is they don't have elderly care. People move in there and they're hoping to have some kind of help down the road; they don't have that. Overall, it was a fairly nice place. It was convenient. I give that rating for staff, because of the administration being included in there. Unless you want to accept that there's some way we can separate the administration from the rest of them, because the staff overall was great, and the administration was mediocre at best. The food was fine, my mom always complained about it, but it was fine. Their activities were hit or miss. They didn't change it up a whole lot while my mom was there; that was always the same. Back to the staff thing, we would do the once-a-year evaluation, and the head nurse in there, I didn't care for him. I liked the actual nurses that took care of my mom, but the head person that oversees them, would say, "Well, she has dementia, and she doesn't participate." Well, if you're the nurse and if she's got dementia, then it's going to be a lot harder. I didn't like their approach with my mom's situation as far as maybe trying to suggest ways. It was not a real positive experience with a person, and that person is no longer there, by the way. They're not as expensive as some of the other places; I would say the pricing is probably right there. That's probably why they don't have elderly waivers because they keep their prices low to keep people there. They're not cheap, but they're not the highest.

We went to The Glenn of Minnetonka. The staff was very accommodating. The unit was extremely well taken care of. Even the garage was very clean. You could almost eat off the floor. I was very impressed with how well the unit was taken care of. They offered lots of activities and they have a hairdresser, a workout room, and a place for art activities. They're within walking distance of the grocery store, which is very nice. There's a nice restaurant that's right across the street from where they are. It was during lunchtime, so the residents were coming out of the elevator. They're good-sized elevators and I think there were at least 10 or 11 people with walkers that went out of one elevator. The couple of residents I talked to seemed happy. Even the housekeeper that let us in and showed us where to go was very, very accommodating and nice. The location is a plus or a minus. It's very busy. The backside is right at the grocery store and there are a lot of activities that we normally don't like, but the front side was very nice and quiet. The units were smaller than we wanted.

The Glenn Minnetonka was medium size, in which they had all three categories living in the same building. For my brother, that would certainly be better than a huge complex. It looked very nice, it's Catholic oriented, and he would have his own apartment. Just down the elevator, there would be a library and all the other things, like the restaurant and place to get his haircut. The key person was Pam and she was terrific. When it comes to the meals, he would be able to pick and choose it. They publish a page that shows what's served each day. If there's something served on Tuesday night for dinner that appeals to him, he could just choose to go to dinner Tuesday night and pay for that independently.

I would like to commend the staff members in memory care for doing such a wonderful (and very difficult) job. The gentle kindness and care you show the residents is beyond measure. Thank you!

Our Mom and Dad have lived at the Glenn since March of 2012. They first lived in an Assisted Living apartment and since Mom passed this year, dad resides in the Care Suites. The compassionate and caring staff, meaningful activities, true friendships and a beautiful and clean environment have all contributed to a high quality of life for our parents and much peace of mind for my siblings and me.

The Glenn is the kind of vibrant, caring senior community I'd like to live in someday. The amenities and activities are designed to involve the residents in joyful interaction...from the movie theater and activity rooms to the beautifully designed chapel. This is a place to celebrate life and use your talents and gifts in a multitude of ways. The caring staff makes you feel like an important part of the family and are always there for you when you need help. No wonder my friends are so impressed when they visit.

Bob was at the The Glenn, and it was excellent. I couldn’t ask for anything. The staff was super; when Bob died, they called us to tell us he was getting ready to die so we could be with him. It’s very beautiful. Bob has his own bathroom and shower, and the room was nice. They had little areas with fire place that you didn’t have to be with everybody; you can be alone in certain areas. The ratio was fantastic. I can’t say enough nice things. The staff really cared about the people who were there. The only thing was it was very expensive, and they do not take any aide. Bob couldn’t really participate, but they did have activities for them. They told stories, and they had an activities director that came in. The dining area was really nice, they had tablecloths at dinner time, and the food was good. It was the same food to give to anybody else.

We moved my mother here in December 2015 from out-of-state following the death of my father. There was an adjustment period due to a different care model than she has experienced before and all new people to provide her care but the staff has been very responsive to our questions and concerns. She is participating in the craft and game activities with smiles and enthusiasm and enjoying the variety of performances. I feel that she is appreciated for the qualities she brings to The Glenn Minnetonka as well. We are grateful.

My aunt just moved in to The Glenn. The main reason for choosing it is that she's in the same neighborhood where she's lived for a number of years now, so she didn't have to learn new grocery stores, post office, hardware stores, and drug stores, so it was a familiar location. It had the two-bedroom apartment she wanted. She needs help with her meals, and it had meal assistance available, plus activities and good sunlight; since she's a painter, she needed good sunlight and the extra bedroom to paint. They had some art instruction available as well, so all those things helped her select that location. They have been very helpful and had the things that my aunt was looking for.
Provider Response
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so fortunate to be a part of the Glen Lake community and are happy your aunt is part of ours! We strive to offer the best services and conveniences to help make senior living as easy as possible and are happy to hear that your aunt is finding this to be true as well.

My mom was a resident at the Glenn from the day it opened 5 years ago. She started in independent living and when it became necessary, the wonderful staff at the Glenn helped us with the difficult transition into memory care. The suites are very tasteful and comfortable and the staff is professional and compassionate. They did a great job of getting to know my mom and always treated her with respect and dignity as her health continued to decline. The activities people do a wonderful job with music and engaging the residents in appropriate activities. They are very kind and professional. I would strongly recommend the Glenn for any level of care for your loved one.

The Glenn is a beautiful place but not necessarily a good fit for people with memory problems. It is a big facility and can be overwhelming for some residents. My mother was there for about 7 months and we finally had to move her out where she could get more hands on. She was lost there everyday. So make sure you do your homework. Assisted living is not the same everywhere, and the Glenn is not like most assisted living facility's. I learned the hard way. They do not provide any extra care without a extra charge. Staff is great there if you don't need much assistance.
Provider Response
Thank you for your feedback. We work hard to promote successful living in all of our areas of care, including being forth coming with all our costs. We encourage you to call us directly as we would love to discuss your concerns.

My father moved into assisted living at The Glenn on April 18th, 2013, after a referral by a residents son and daughter. The facility is beautiful, and the staff is extremely friendly and competent. As my fathers health diminished he moved into the Enhanced Care Suites for additional care. Inspite of his age, physical condition, and somewhat challenging personality everyone continued his care beyond our expectations. I would highly recommend The Glenn to anyone needing Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, or Enhanced Care. A very comforting and reassuring place for the family as well.
Provider Response
Thank you for sharing your experiences at The Glenn! Your comments mean so much to us as we try very hard to create an atmosphere in which our residents feel welcomed and at home, not only in the environment but also in their individual care plans, and that our families feel rest assured that their loved ones are being cared for with the upmost compassion and respect.
