I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother moved into The Village at Rosy Mound. They had an opening, so we didn't have to be on the long waitlist, and the price points were good. The facility is very nice. They have great activities. They've got a great new activity director and they're doing all kinds of things and she's adding some stuff. They've got meals available five nights a week, a brunch two mornings a week. The staff has been great, all of them. The residents are very friendly. Nice place. It's only five years old. It's got a lot of closet storage. He's in a two bedroom, two bath. The staff is competent and helpful. They've got a beautiful library with a fireplace and books and jigsaw puzzles going. They had the spring high school jazz band performing here yesterday. A couple talked about an Iditarod dog race experience and brought one of the dogs with them that had run the race the other day when I was here. They have daily euchre and pinochle clubs and knitting and crochet club. They've got a huge arts and crafts room and woodshop for people to work in. They've got a game room with tables and a pool table that you can reserve for family events too. It's nice. They've got an aviary up on the second floor, on the balcony area. The thing is full like an eight-foot glass case with birds and you can listen to the birds and live birds and watch them. They've got an agenda each day. The activities director had just recently contacted our club to see if somebody from our club would come and talk about birds to them. And so we've got three programs that we're doing for the community coming up, and she's looking to do a series of that. So there's just a lot of interesting things. For people who need independent living. I would highly recommend it. There's a hair salon in here too. You can get your hair done here. They also bring in a hearing aid person and a podiatrist that makes regular visits for the residents to make appointments. They've got housekeeping that you can pay extra for.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm at The Village at Rosy Mound. So far, it's been kept real clean. They keep you up-to-date on what's happening through newsletters. If you have maintenance, they're pretty fast at that. I can't really say anything bad about it other than, and I imagine this is common in a lot of them, they got toilets where they don't fill up completely. They say it's to conserve water, which it is because they pay for the water, but I think it's more because they pay for it than they're worried about conserving water, because we've got a huge lake of water across the street. Other than that, they're fine. My apartment was very clean when I came in, but I'm responsible for keeping it clean. They have people that come in if you so choose, but everything, your meals and all that stuff, you pay extra for them, but it's not on a regular basis. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to use it, so it's up to the person. The staff is good. They have a small exercise room with about five machines in it. It's real close to where my place is and I go by it several times, and I don't see it being overcrowded or anything like that. I don't particularly care for a lot of the food items. They use a lot of cheese, which I don't care for. They use stuff that's fancy and I'm not into fancy, but the food I have had is good. They're very helpful. They have a bus service, they take you on different trips if you so desire, and they take you to grocery stores once a week if you so desire. I'm sure there's a lot out there that do more and everything like that, but the cost factor at The Village at Rosy Mound is reasonable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live in The Village at Rosy Mound and it is very, very nice. I don't have a washer and dryer in my apartment, but I am right next to the laundry room and I have the use of two washing machines and two dryers, so it is very convenient for me. It is wonderful. The only problem right now is the virus, they had us on lockdown, so they don't have any of the activities open right now. We can go to our doctors and essential things like grocery shopping, but we are told not to visit family members and more or less to stay in our apartments and away from groups of people gathering. And to not walk the halls because the virus can carry into the hallways. But when we're able to do everything we have bingo, games, we party together, and there's all kinds of activities. The rooms are very spacious, and my 2-bedroom have two full size bathrooms. The living room is very nice, I have a couch, a shelf full of books, and a huge TV in my living room. And there is still space for my printer, a desk, and table for dinner. I have a little piano in here, too. The kitchen is very spacious. I have an upscale dishwasher, refrigerator, and electric stove and a very nice cabinet. The prices are very reasonable, too. The only thing missing is we don't have a swimming pool. We have garages so you can rent a garage that has a door that you can open up with your garage door opener. And we also have a little roof covering or shade which you can rent, too. We have storage rooms that you can rent for extra storage for your things. There's 2 washing machines and 2 dryers on each corner of each level. There are three levels on this building with an elevator on two ends. There is no stairways except one if you want to walk down. There is a gym, a wellness clinic, and a huge dining room with a chef who will prepare dinner meals once a day. You can cook on your own if you want. The staff is very, very nice. It is a privately owned place and the owner even has a huge apartment here where, if he wants to, he can come in and be with us. I am health conscious because I have a heart problem so for me the food is a little too salty, so I cook my own and I mix it with some of the food that he prepares so it won't be so salty. If you don't have that problem, it is fine. It is right next to Lake Michigan. It is a little town and is not a place to go shopping. It is very small with local businesses and restaurants. If you like the quietness and the beauty, there is a lot of woods here with lots of deer running around and wild turkeys walking all over the place. There are several apartments for low income here as well and those apartments are huge. My sister is in one of those apartments and she has a bigger apartment than I have. She has a huge walk-in closet, but she only has 1 bathroom in her apartment. She has a shower in her apartment with one bathroom, but she has a half-bathroom. She does have two full size bedrooms and a nice big living room as big as mine. I have the most expensive apartment in the building, one of the expensive ones.
