La Crosse County, which is located in the extreme southwestern region of Wisconsin, is home to over 118,000 people and has a large senior community that makes up almost 16 percent of the population. In this county, it's projected that almost 12 percent of seniors who are Medicare beneficiaries have Alzheimer's disease or dementia.Â
La Crosse County has two memory care facilities, including one in the city of La Crosse and one in Holmen. In Wisconsin, memory care services may be provided in a dedicated facility that only serves those with dementia, as is the case with the facility in Holmen. Alternately, dementia services may be provided in community-based residential facilities. Both types of facilities are regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.Â
