Dixon is a city of about 20,000 people in Solano County, California, approximately 23 miles southwest of Sacramento. Across the county, an estimated 9.1 percent of persons 65 years of age or older have Alzheimer's disease. In the Dixon area, where seniors in this age group make up 11.4 percent of the population, there are eight memory care facilities available to provide compassionate care to seniors who have Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. The California Department of Social Services licenses these memory care facilities as Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs).
