I am happy to have had the pleasure of working at this facility. God Bless all of the staff and residents as they go through this time of transition. Best to each and every one during the upcoming move.

After touring a half-dozen assisted living facilities in the Merrimack Valley, we had become used to seeing the same things at each location: large seating areas, activity spaces, dining rooms, etc. But even before we got inside the Merrimack River Valley House, we knew it was going to be a different type of facility. Housed in an old Victorian style house in busy downtown Lowell, we could best describe the building as "charming". To tell the truth, the neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. Surrounded by rundown tenement type buildings, I am not sure if it is the type of place where unescorted nighttime walks would be recommended. But the Merrimack River Valley House itself was well-kept and well-maintained. Inside, it was like stepping back in time. The residents can enjoy quaint sitting rooms and small dining area, and each space seems to have a historic turn-of-the-century feel. With its very small size and small amount of residents, there seems to be a more personal feel to the Merrimack River Valley House than at the other larger assisted living facilities in the area.

When I visited her there was a good community feel to the facility. She was able to have a social life with her peers that was unavailable to her when she lived in her own apartment. It was also a comfort to know that there was a trained staff available to make sure that if there were any problems, health related or otherwise, she would be able to get the help she needed. She took great comfort in the community at the facility and enjoyed sharing both meal time and leisure time with the other women in residence. When I visited there was a vary welcoming atmosphere. When she did pass away we knew that she had spent the last years of her life with people who stimulated and enriched her life.
