My wife and I stayed at The Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant. One of the things that's really good is the structure of that CCRC. They have independent living, assisted living and nursing care. It's a step-down community, which isn't needed by us right now, but thinking long term, that's very reassuring to have. It had some very good facilities including a good gym. It was a smaller community in terms of the number of units, which was fairly nice because we got to know everyone fairly well. It had houses, duplexes and apartments for independent living. All in all, it was a fairly positive experience. The largest issue is that I'm still working full time and anticipate that I will still be working full time in several years. Many of the activities and amenities were not available at off hours, so we really weren't able to avail ourselves of the opportunities that the community provided. The cost of living in Maryland generally is very high and, therefore, the cost of living at CCRC here in Maryland is very high, but I don't think their costs are excessive compared with others in the central Maryland region.

The Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant was a very nice facility. It's small and they don't offer as much as the other place. One of my concerns was they have no peripheral security. It is in what you would call a safe neighborhood, but even so, if I'm going to take my dog out after dark, I would like to know that there were no people potentially wandering around. It was a lovely place, but the extracurricular activities were limited in certain areas and they were more expensive than others. The one-room apartment had a kitchen, bedroom, and bath. Some have dens and balconies, some don't. The balcony doesn't matter to me and I probably wouldn't use the den because it's an inner room and I don't want to sit in a room without a window. The staff was quite professional and very good. The main problem is that they concentrated on integrating with the community, so any activity they had was just really social with current residents. They had good facilities, good common areas, and good workout areas. I can't fault quite a bit for what they provide. It's just that the number of activities was fewer. It's laid out fairly well. They have a separate facility for people who need care. It's very nice and very clean. They're starting to build another building, so it's going to mess up the site as well and that gave me some pause.

We did a tour of The Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant. The community was very well-kept. I could tell that it was a newer community. The grounds were in excellent condition. They have a pool, and I remember knowing that they had nurses on site that the residents could make appointments. I remember the activities that they had. They have an art class, a hair salon, and a gym. It's a wonderful community. The people there took us around on a tour. They were very friendly and very helpful. It was just a welcoming feeling. I think they have different levels of care because this property has homes, then they have apartments, and they have assisted living. I think they have palliative care, so I think it's all levels. It's very expensive here in Maryland, it's not like down south. They have these astronomical entrance fees, and that kind of deters you away. The staff were great. I was very impressed by the facility.

It really is like a cruise ship at dock. We really enjoy the food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The apartment is just what we need, airy and spacious with lots of storage. But it's the people that make it! The residents have established a sense of caring community throughout the place. It is delightful to interact with all these interesting, fascinating characters. And the programming is non stop! Entertainment, fitness programs, lectures even in these pandemic times. I am so happy to have chosen LVMG.
