I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother was in this facility for a month before passing away there in September 2022. I sent him a card which arrived a day or two later; I just got it back a few days ago after 4 months. On the envelope, some clod had written: "NOT HERE", and it had to be someone from the facility in Ellicott City, MD. I shudder to think what his treatment was like. I hope that person receives the same cold-hearted treatment when THEIR loved one passes away. Cold and uncaring - and UNFORGIVABLE!!!! And one star is too many!

I visited this facility

My husband was at this place. One star is way too generous. He was there for a week or so (I am ashamed to admit). The final straw was him falling asleep with food in his mouth. I contacted the social worker and told her he was not spending another night there. Called my daughter and we took him home. Now he is in a very good place. They are not perfect, but they care and work very hard to take care of their patients. Just thinking about this place makes my blood run cold. PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONE STAY IN THIS PLACE.

If I could give no stars, I would. My mother (78 years old) broke her hip on 11/20/22 and was taken to Northwest Hospital. During the discharge prep, after surgery, they told my father she would be taken here. She arrived at this facility at 2:00am on 11/24/22. My father told me that as he was walking down the hall with the ambulance crew, the facility had the strong odor of urine. He noticed that all of the televisions were on in all of the rooms and the volume was turned up. After she was placed in her room, and somewhat settled in my father went home for the night. When I spoke with him this morning, he was at the facility, an aide came in the room, dropped a towel and other toiletries on the table and told her "This isn't a hospital, you have to clean yourself." in a condescending tone. I asked my father how she was feeling. At 10:00am she was in excruciating pain. He said that they had not given her any pain medications. Her last doses were given around 9:00pm the night before. The nurse told him they didn't have any of her medication there but were trying to find some. I asked him on a scale from 1-10, how was her pain. He said a 9. I then said I would call him back. I immediately called 911 and asked for EMS to respond to care/transport her to Howard County General Hospital. Upon EMS arriving, the staff went nuts because EMS showed up without any of the staff calling for them. My father explained to the Paramedics what was going on with her, they evaluated her and transported her to Howard County General Hospital at approximately 10:30am. She was evaluated by the Physician who got her medications going, including pain meds for her hip, but also the other meds she takes for her other ailments by 2:00pm. The On-Call Case Manager for orthopedics was called in to start working on her case. Tomorrow (11/25/22) she will start her process to move my mother to a safe facility. Fortunately, all of her physicians are affiliated with Hopkins, because the ER physician was able to see all of her doctor's notes and all of her medications. Under no circumstances will she return there. I am contacting Adult Protective Services on 11/28/22 to file a complaint against this facility. Its nice to have reviews such as these, but with my mother's treatment there, a formal complaint needs to be made.

This place is terrible. I would never go to this place again. Most of the GNAs there are terrible. Nurses are very slow to give meds. They decreased my pain meds overnight from 6 mg to 2. That was a dramatic change in one day, but I was ok, along with Tylenol. Noone really cleans your room. The trash overflows. Back to the GNAs they, are very disrespectful. I maybe had 1 or 2 good meals. I ordered out a lot and paid a lot of money for everything. I am so dissatisfied. I called the police to come see about 2 very ill patience. One would scream and cry so bad, I thought she had cancer. I felt so bad for her. I had to pray. Noone should ever be admitted to this place. Im going to report them tomorrow. This place was absolute hell. If you were ever here, please write a review. I pray this place gets shut down. Oh, and the gnats were unbelievable. The guy comes in and sprays all around me, I had nothing to protect myself from the fumes. I wish I could rate it a 0.

PLEASE RECONSIDER SENDING YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILITY. In February 2022, my brother who was suffering from a traumatic brain injury was transferred to this facility. We visited him exactly one day after he got to the facility and found him on the floor beside his bed. We didn't know how long he had been there as he was unable to communicate that or whether or not he was hurt. When we tried to get someone to help him, the staff was walking around like in slow motion. It was terrible. I complained to the corporate office who have not responded at all. My brother died less than one month of being in this place. We believed the lack of care hastened his demise. Please look elsewhere if you care for your loved ones.

I visited this facility

I arrived at this facility during shift change 3:00 pm. I immediately was asked by my father, who was a resident, and his room mate to locate a nurse for them. They both had pushed their call buttons for help with basic needs but no one came to check on them for hours. I went to the nurses station and stood there for 10 minutes before the nurses ended their personal conversations and acknowledged my presence. I was told that the nurse that was in charge of their care was eating and they would let her know. After and hour and a half went by from my arrival. My father's roommate began screaming at the top of his lungs for a nurse to come help him. Still, no one came into the room to see if there was a problem or for personal care. After 30 minutes of listening to the roommate screaming for help. I again went to the nurses station to ask for help from the nurses. This time all there was at least 6 nurses at the desk having conversations. There was also another resident with a walker asking "Is there anyone working here today? My roommate needs to be changed. He has been waiting since 10:00am." This was at 4:30 in the afternoon. All of the staff just ignored him. I spoke up and demanded to see my fathers medical treatment schedule. The nurse became irate and began screaming at me. Needless to say, I removed my father from the facility that day. The rooms were dirty and the bathrooms as well. The entire facility smelled like shit. The residents are neglected of their basic human needs.

Workers are lazy. When they are called to rooms it takes 45 to 60 minutes for them to respond. It is hard to get a appt with social worker.

This place is crazy. I was in there phone with a patient at this facility and the weekend nurse started screaming at him. So once I started yelling because how she was treating him. She started apologizing she knew she messed up. I also have a video of the nurses sleeping. My patient friend had to go to the hospital and the nurse in duty had to call her supervisor to be told he can go to the hospital. I asked her what if he was having a heart attack? And everyone knows you only have minutes with a heart attack. She told me no matter what she had to call a supervisor before anyone left the facility. I pray nothing is wrong with my brothers heart. He will have to lay there and pass away because you have to call a supervisor for someone to go to the hospital. We actually have a video of the nurses sleeping. We still can't figure out why he was sent here. He was trying to get alcohol abuse treatment.

My sister was sent there following knee surgery for P/O therapy. I have NEVER been more disappointed and angry with a medical facility. The patient had preexisting conditions that were never addressed! She informed dietary that she’s a diabetic and CANNOT eat certain carbs or REGULAR SUGAR!!! The staff didn’t administer the required pain meds (per the surgeon) on time or not at all.

Our mother was admitted just before Thanksgiving to the Ellicott City Rehabilitation facility following a week's stay at Howard County General. They treated her for some infection (not sepsis which they ruled out) that was causing an altered mental state. Upon her release she was supposed to have been stable and in need of rehabilitation and PT for about three weeks. Also care for leg sores she developed due to her heart disease. We read the reviews of this facility and all had concerns. However, this facility was the only one who had a bed available and HC needed her moved. Needless to say all this is going on while we are in COVID. Family was not able to see mom in person at the hospital or at this facility. As others reported the communication received from this facility was terrible. Family members calling mom were met with unanswered phones from the front desk or a rude lady who must not like her job. Mom was too weak to answer her own phone and we could not visit. Our only means of communication was to call the front desk and they would transfer to the nursing station. Again, no one barely answered. Finally we had enough of the lack of or poor communication. Family made arrangements to transport mom on 12-10-20. On the day she was supposed to be transported, she had to be transported to St. Agnes Hospital. Her kidneys were shutting down. Why? What happened? Mom never went to her new facility. Mom died at 8pm that evening. To make matters worse, when a family member went to pick up some of her belongings she was met with the very rude receptionist. No compassion. They must do a better job communicating with families and especially now when families cannot be there to advocate for loved ones.

My experience with Ellicott City Healthcare Center was horrible !! I had my Dad admitted there for Rehabilitation and he got everything but that. First of all this all happened during the outbreak of the Covid 19 virus , no one was allowed to enter in the building. and they did NOTHING as far as outreach, I received NO phone calls from the therapy team. I reached out with countless phone calls no one returns calls, I tried calling the Director, the unit manager, the Social worker, the Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Admissions Director, no one absolutely no one returns calls at this place. The communication is terrible!! My Dad was there for over 2 Weeks and I received 1 update from an occupational Therapist. My Dad is worst off now than when he was first admitted

I visited this facility

My mother was a resident at this facility. It was a horrible experience for us. I visited often and never the same time of day. I found the staff to be poor. One evening the facility employee ( identification badges not worn or turned with picture face down)offered my mother medications. He did not verify her identity, just said here your medication. He offered her a double dose of medication for high blood pressure, when I questioned him he stated he thinks they increased the dose. I requested that he verify this prior to administratoring it. He left the medication in the room with my mom who had dementia only to return to me and say that thier was no increase dose change and asked if I had given it to her. At the time the medication system they were using was such that it had day, date and time of administration on the medication. So he either did pay any attention or forgot to give the med earlier in the day and decided he play catch-up. I did file a complaint . On yet another occasion , I visited my mom and the medication that was supposedly given to her was in her bed. So they apparently they don't stay at the bedside to insure that patient medication is swallowed. I took pictures of this. My mother had food trays set before her that clearly stated they belong to another patient. I brought my own supplies to clean my mothers room and bathroom which was shared by 4 patients. Feces and urine often left on and in toilet. Housekeeping was not made accountable., it seems . The facility smelled. All an all terrible facility. Don't judge a book by its cover . This facility looks good and modern, but the care is so far from good that it deserved no stars when my mother was there. If place your loved ones their your job will be making sure that they're doing thier job.

HORRIBLE - I wish my relative never had to go here. NO COMMUNICATION between anyone. My relative died 3 days after leaving here. He came home with 6 bed sores because everyone here is so lazy. Sheets weren't change for days. Never saw anyone clean the room and I was there everyday. Trash cans over flowing No paper towels ever in the bathroom And don't try to get a cup of ice, it takes an act of congress. Don't send your loved one here!.

This place is the worst. I would not recommend this facility to even my worst enemy. It deserves no stars. Have to beg for meds, have to beg for diaper changes, very poor attitudes from most. My mother fell while there and they tried to cover it up. Urine smell everywhere. Bathrooms never properly cleaned. State law is that diapers must be checked and or changed every 2 hours. This place went 8 hours and only changed it because we pointed it out. No 2 nurses give the same med's or are on the same med schedule. We were checked in 3 days after she arrived. No one every said how the discharge process was to go so we sat around waiting. I could not wait to get my mother out of that living hell. It should be closed down or at the very least have a whole new staff brought in from the administrator on down.

I am a patient here. The food is generally bad. Meat is overlooked and is generally unrecognizable. They have recently shown some improvement by serving apples and bananas with some meals. Medical care is poor with limited chances to see the doctors. One doctors visit consisted of the doctor asking me if I was happy with my medications excuse me what medication for what ailment? General health care is poor. With under paid and overworked health aids in charge. It can be frustrating to get changed with some changes taking over two hours. Reasons: aid is talking with other aids, taking care of dialisis patients, going on one half hour breaks. Communications is poor or non existent. Rooms and roommates are not thought out. My current roommate has dementia and keeps me up all night with his yelling. I hope this exposé from the inside will help. As for me I am considering moving to one of the veterans homes.

My children's father (under age 50) is in this facility and it has been a total nightmare. He has some paralysis on his right side and speech impairment due to brain injury. He has fallen more than twice and the staff said "Oh he's ok" without accessing him completely, he was complaining about pain. My daughter had to almost threaten to report them before they gave him x-rays, the x-rays came back normal but it was clear he was hurting. He is receiving occupational, speech and physical therapy but we're not seeing a lot of improvement. If he says he doesn't feeli like therapy they just walk away without insisting. He will go hours without being cleaned, diapers remain soiled sometimes till shift changes. I need some referrals for another facility, this place is horrible. 1 star was the lowest rating I was allowed to give.

My dad is in Ellicott City Health Care Center because it is the only one that had an opening in the area. Are we pleased with it? No. The care by the nurses and the technicians are awesome. The administration? it was 2 1/2 weeks before the admission doctors contacted us. We never have the meeting of the doctors, the nurses, the physical therapist, nothing. I have requested and I lodged a complaint. Every time someone calls me, they have a different story on where my dad is going or what is happening. It is like there is no record transfer. It is almost laughable, the way the things have gone. The rooms are typical. They are similar to the hospital rooms. The same bed, nightstand, closet areas, and sharing the bathroom with others. The nurse and technicians that he has because my father had dementia, they are awesome with him. They have gone above and beyond with the care and just fooling around with him and just keeping him going with the way his mind is working. He enjoys the food there much better of course than in the hospital. We are there when the meals come. To me it is basic things and nothing extra special. The only thing that they have to keep him active is the physical therapy. There is no exercise room, no TV room, no community room, no dining room -- nothing. The nurses are great, but with the overall facility and the other the staff, it has been a nightmare. For instance, we were there last Monday, and the speech therapist thinks that my dad's dementia is caused by the surgery and blood on his brain. No; he had dementia prior to that. It is like nobody communicates, and they didn't have information. We are supposed to have a group meeting with the doctors, the nurses, and the physical therapist. I asked for it 3 times -- even writing an email. When we go there and talk to him, he looks as us like he never heard of it. We have never talked to a doctor; however, the nurses are great with him. However, they have very limited information. They have very bad communication.

My mom is currently staying at this facility. The nurse who usually cares for her is great. The other nurses are rude and disrespectful. And there is definetly lack of communication with the social worker. And the social worker doesn't seem to care about the patients at the facility. He wasen't interested in listening to my moms concerns. And the nurses and CNA's seem overwhelmed. And they leave dirty medical equipment in rooms or bathrooms. It's not really a great place to let you're parent stay at!

The staff are slow to respond to the residents needs. You have to contact outside assistance to get the management involved in your concerns with family care. The place smells of urine not properly cleaned. Medication is either not given at all or not given on time. If your familiy member leaves due to an emergeny and admitted into the hospital, not ONE staff member will reach out to ensure they are ok. The nurse/patient ratio is HORRIBLE. The Administrator is rude and does not care about the patients but only about filling beds for money. This place is not meant for animals or humans.

My mother stayed 2weeks in this facility. Communication is a big problem. Responding to patient needs is very slow. Some were very friendly and others had severe attitude problems. The food was great and served warmed but medications were not always given in a timely manner. Physical therapy was excellent.
