I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was a resident at The Willows at Hamburg for 3 1/2 years. She really felt at home there. The food was very good and she enjoyed many of the activities, especially the trip to Keeneland and a trip to a butterfly farm. We found all of the staff exceptionally caring. When my mother became a hospice patient all of the staff were unfailingly kind to my mother and my sister and me. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Provider Response

Thank you for the wonderful recommendation. We are so happy to hear that your mother loved her time with us.

I visited this facility

I went to the Willows at Hamburg. It's the one I least like. As soon as I walked in, the carpets were so badly stained throughout, and I just wasn't impressed. I just didn't get that happy vibe, as if I wanted to live there. I just wasn't happy. The person that gave me the tour wasn't the usual person that does the tour, she was on vacation, so the person that I have wasn't that informative and probably really shouldn't have given the tour because there were a lot of questions that she said that she really didn't know the answers to. As I walked down through the hallway with memory care, I smelled mildew, which isn't good. It smelled like a nursing home. I wasn't happy about that. So she took me into one room that was empty. They do provide furniture, but the furniture is just old. They need to do some renovations. As much money as you pay for memory care or assisted living, they really need to put back into their community. The dining area wasn't as big as some of the other communities, which is not a big deal. To the left was like a dining area as you walk down this little hallway, and to the right it was a bunch of memory care residents, like in a circle, and they were doing crafts with this lady. She's their activity person, so I got to see them interacting with her. I went outside and it looked like if you wanted to come and eat lunch with your loved one, there's an area outside. So there were a couple families that were eating lunch with someone outside, and I got to talk to one of them. One of the residents was asking me a lot of questions, so I talked to her for a little bit, but that was the only activity that I could see while I was there.

Provider Response

This is a horrible facility! They consistently lie, leave fecal matter unattended for days, the staff is over-worked. They do really shady things as far as the billing is concerned. Don’t put your loved ones here or everyday will be a different stress

My father was in The Willows at Hamburg. It's a very clean facility, with nice, very attentive staff members, good rooms, good service, and it was just all around great. They had some special brunches on Sundays where they encouraged family members to come, and they had some group activities. The food was very good.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was at The Willows at Hamburg and I liked it really well. My room was a good size and they kept it very clean, and the bathroom was always clean. The staff was absolutely excellent and I always got my medicine on time and if I needed help with anything, someone was there within a minute. They have a very long list of things like bingo, puzzles, and board games. It seemed like they have a lot of people coming in and playing music. It looked like they were very busy with activities. They were very cooperative. They knew I was in an extreme amount of pain and they wouldn't push me. They would give me a massage and if I was having a bad day, they would come to my room and do therapy rather than have me go to the therapy department. It was the cleanest place I have ever been. Everybody was extremely nice and eager to help you. It was a nice place to be.

It saddens me to see that they repeatedly "forget to bring the meal" , I find my mother sitting in filth from accidents . And somehow they forget to arrange transportation for her medical Appointments. The list goes on. Staff is small, non compassionate, and not sure how to do their job adequately. I question their actual education. It's cruel to the patients !! Our seniors deserve so much better! I am transferring my mother out of The Willows. If you're considering using them, please look around, ask questions and really reconsider .

Loved one has been there for going on 3 years. At 1st OK but didn't last long. 3 Directors in last 3 yrs that I know of..nursing care skelton, weekend care, practically none, food terrible. These comments come directly from a current resident that asked to be moved. . RN care the same and other caregivers.

When my mother first came to the Willows at Hamburg, I was impressed with the facility. It was clean and food was good. The staff was friendly. As time has gone by, the staff is disappearing and there is not enough employees to take care of the residents. The ones who are there are overworked. Every time I go see my mother, she is sitting in a dirty diaper. The quality of the food has gone way down. Too many residents with injuries from falls. Don't be distracted by the nice facility. Seems like management is more concerned with the facility than with the care of the residents who pay their salaries. We are making arrangements to move my mother or hire help to bring her home.

I am a friend or relative of resident

We moved my mother-in-law into this nursing home almost 6 weeks ago. She is a Hospice patient and has progressively needed more care and attention. We could not be more pleased with this facility and its staff. My mother-in-law feels safe and well cared for. She is dressed appropriately, checked on regularly, kept clean and fed whatever she is able to eat. The staff are very kind and caring and the response time after the call button is pushed is very fast. The facility is clean, well furnished, cheerful and there is no "nursing home" smell! Staff all seem to be very happy to be working at The Willows. We have not met a single person with "attitude." We can't say enough at this point about how pleased we all are and we dreaded the scenario of having to put my mother-in-law into a nursing home. It really turned out to be the best decision. No regrets.

I could not be more pleased with the care my Mother received during her rehab periods. The staff is/was so kind to her. The activities were wonderful and kept her busy during this time and made her stay much more pleasant. The food was prepared for her and she received treats anytime she asked for them. I cannot be more pleased and would highly recommend.

This new facility looks so good and it is clean and pleasant. However, the management is totally incompetent. Many weekends we found them understaffed. I found my mother once, age 102 sitting in her wheel chair shivering from lack of adequate clothing, her glasses off, her shoes missing, and her hearing aid missing. No nurse or aid could be found for over ten minutes. The turn-over on nurses and aids is very high. This is a new company and they do not know what they are doing. So don't be fooled by the building or decorations. The care is only as good as the nurse or aid with your loved one. In less than a year there (she now has been moved) we saw at least fifteen different nurses. Chaos is the word I would use to describe the Willows. I hope they get their act in order for the sake of the community.

Beautiful facility, friendly and caring staff. Ready to help anyway they can. They have to work twice as hard because of a rocky start and bad reviews. So far I am thrilled. They have caught health issues that Dad's doctors have overlooked. Even the cause of his pnuemonia!

My mother is living there currently on Medicare days. Her improvement in mobility and spirit have greatly improved. The staff is very caring and kind. They have wonderful activities throughout the day and the food there is very good. My mother is treated like the queen she deserves to be. I cannot yet speak about the difference between care for Medicaid patients at the Willows at Hamburg or the Legacy, but from the places I have visited and the stories I have heard, this place is the very best in town that isn't totally private pay.

You don't want to go here, we pulled loved one out for her safety, ombudsman called several times to go in and Office of Att. General called in twice for investigation, director and couple others fired. Our loved one contacted Impetago, due due not keeping her clean , ( I wonder how many others have it now as is very contagious) she got a chipped tooth due to her sliding down on floor, they didn't keep hold of her, oh the stories we could tell, we took her out for her safety. Think twice before you go here

This is the worst place ever. So many things happened. Non caring employees, on the Legacy side, I had to be there daily to make sure loved one taken care of, things stolen, clothing ruined, they lost many of her clothes, relative was not kept clean, in same clothes for 5 days, had to call ombudsman several times and state attorney generals office called in to investigate....twice! Other family members said "get her out of there" even one of her doctors said "she didn't belong there." Two days before we left, she complained of her back hurting. Her first night away from Legacy, that night, a caregiver we hired to help her in her new apt with baths called and had us come over. Her back full of blisters, some were starting to dry up, so they were there for several days. Took to doctor following Monday, she had Impentago, very contagious, "cause by not being kept clean." If they had been caring for her, looked at her back and noticed it if bathing her and notified us. I wonder how many there now have this condition and they are not telling families. They just don't care, Director was fired back in Sept, and so were others, no one can do their job. She had no cavities and had 3 when there, took to have them filled, dentist even sent faxes t them, twice to help her with dental health, they still didn't, they let her drop when by a bath, she had a front tooth chip off, they rarely helped her in dental health. I could go on and on, we took her out to keep her safe. I've heard others complain also. You'll be very sorry if you put any loved one there, very sorry. She is now living on her own, fixes her own breakfast, and doing great, just 3 weeks after leaving there. They put your loved one in front of TV in living area, not kept active much. It's been called 'Gods Waiting Room." My heart goes out to ones there and family cannot ck on them often as we could. I suggest you not go here. Oh the stores I could tell.....it horrible there at the Legacy. Even the nurses are known to snap at you, have an attitude, and another residents family member noticed it too when we were talking. Be careful, don't go there, you'll be moving your loved one out within months.

Used to be good facility. Staff has been cut back to a third of what it used to be. They no longer have a director and turn over is terrible because of all the cut backs and unsteady nature of this place.
