We live at The Village at Arborwood Senior Community. It's an independent living community and we've been here for about a year and a half. It's been a very positive experience. We're very pleased with it. They're very loving in the sense that they take good care of the people who are here. They're open to suggestions. We've enjoyed it. We're very positively oriented towards it. There's a library onsite. There's an activity sheet. At the beginning of each month, they publish a brochure consisting of about six to maybe ten pages with the activities that are planned for that month and a calendar of events so that if you want to see what's going on next week, it's easy enough to do and then they have buses that take you shopping if you wish to. They have different activities for people, both men and women. They've got bingo. The food is ala carte. You get a menu of different items at the beginning of the week, and then you select what you'd like. If you like to have a meal at that time, you can. If you don't want a meal, you don't do that. It works out pretty well. They'll have singers come in. It's a very positive experience for people who live here. I don't think I've ever run across anyone who has a bad word for it. Like every place, you probably can find room for improvement, but I don't have any problems at all. I'm sure most of the people here don't either. They're very positively oriented towards it. It's just a good community and it's a safe community. The staff members listen. They fix things if needed. They're very attentive to what you have to say. If you need help, they're there to give you help. They have people who come in, for example, they'll do your wash if you want and they maintain your area. They'll do whatever is required to make sure that you're comfortable. They have the pull cords in case you need help. There are a lot of activities that you can choose from, from card playing to bingo to bowling. They have Wii bowling and a ton of different activities. The value that you get here is exceptional for the money that you pay. We couldn't be happier. We're not rich, but at least we're not destitute either because of the monthly payments.

I'm in The Village at Arborwood Senior Community. It's a wonderful community. It is independent only; there's no assisted living or memory care. It's a non-smoking facility, which I very much like. It is bright and cheerful. So far, the people have been absolutely wonderful. There's a little dog park out back, and it has plenty of carports and storage. The meals are not built into the rate. They are extra, with the lunches at $7 and suppers at $12. There is a full menu, and there is always regular food provided every day. The kitchen in each unit is very well set up. It's for independent people and a lot of them like to do their own cooking.

I didn’t tour Village at Arborwood, but I spoke to somebody when I went there to pick up some information. The lobby area looked very inviting and very new, and it was three stories. This one was more ala-carte so you pay a room price, and then anything additional was optional like the meals, the laundry, and the cleaning. You can bring your car, but they had a shuttle to places. The staff was really nice. I also talked to a staff member on the phone a couple of times, and she was very nice and very helpful. My aunt wants to be as independent as she can be, so I think she would like the Village because you could cook your own meals, but if you wanted to purchase a meal, you could do that too.

The Village at Arborwood was very nice. The girl who took us through was very nice, and the rooms were comparable to any other rooms I've seen. They gave me a list of activities.

I have a sister-in-law living in The Village and it is a highly advertised and well-known facility in the community. The facility is very upscale and beautiful. The staff is very nice. My sister-in-law's apartment is very nice. She has bell access for help, but does not require assisted living at this point. But if she needs that, she can stay in the community and have it. She is happy to have a nice place to be without having to upkeep a house.

This residence was very clean and elegant, and the atmosphere was dignified. I didn't like the lack of nurses and assistants, however. There seemed to be only one or two around for a large number of residents. The rooms themselves were rather drab, and the fluourescent lighting in the rooms and bathrooms was gloomy. I did appreciate the large number of activities that were scheduled and available for residents to participate in, including ones that involved field trips. I recall one nurse who had somewhat of a rude attitude, and some of the residents who were belligerent at dinner time were talked down to and not treated with compassion. The woman in charge of coordinating events for the residents was very nice, though, and encouraged communication. Personally, if I were going to be put into assisted living, this wouldn't be my first choice, but it certainly wouldn't be my last.
