My mother was a resident for a little over 6 months. She arrived as a 91 year old just out of rehab for a hip fracture. She was pleased with the care she received and so were all of our family members who visited often. After a week or two at Hickory Estates I asked mom about the food. She simply said, "good"! I asked, "How does it compare to (here favorite restaurant) MCL"? Her answer, "just the same". She was right. The meals that I ate at H.E. were better quality than any diner I know of and often on par with MCL. While my mom was a resident, they did a remodel of the common areas that had been post-poned due to COVID. The place looks good. The apartments are attractive, the food is great, the staff are attentive and caring, the cost is lower than others we found in the area. The manager does an excellent job. H.E. is the best kept secret in assisted living. I highly recommend it.

Hickory Estates of Taylorville looked like a really nice facility with good staff. My dad liked it a lot. He thought it looked good. We had a nice tour. The staff was extremely friendly, and the place was clean. We saw the dining room, and it looked nice. The meal plan looked good. It seemed like they had a lot of activities. They had a bulletin board of stuff that was going on. They had a very nice courtyard, where the residents could go out on a nice day.

We live in Hickory Estates. It's not very good right now. The food has gotten worse. The management is pretty heavy. I have a problem trying to walk or to get around and I have a scooter that I use, but they told me I couldn't use it. I couldn't park in the hallway. They tell me no, I can't do that. Well, then I can't walk. I can't get anywhere. My husband has been bringing me food from the cafeteria, but most of the time it's yucky. They're on a budget. We've got a lot of empty places, too. We're not the only ones that are unhappy. The staff is good. The people that take care of us, more or less, are really nice. I don't have a problem with them, but the manager is not my favorite person. They play bingo and they play cards and that's about it. We have a bus, but we can't go out for a ride because of this virus thing. We don't have any company; we are not allowed any. It's kinda tough, but we don't have the virus, and the only person that had it was the manager. I miss being able to talk to other women, but we're not allowed. We have a two-bedroom, two-bath, and we have a nice patio area, but we're not allowed to use it anymore because we can't go out.

Hickory Estates of Taylorville was a little bit older and not quite as up-to-date as the others, but as far as the staff and all, my impression was good. They had their own little bus that will take people shopping. I saw the board where they had something going on every day.

We have had a very good experience at Hickory Estates. The people are amazing. Everything has been wonderful, and I will definitely recommend them. The food is very good. They have activities like classes and bingo, live entertainment, and happy hour. Something is happening every day. The place is tranquil, friendly, and clean. They are comparable to others.
