My mother-in-law has moved in at Heritage Woods of Belvidere. We are very happy with the care that she is getting. The staff is very caring, but they've been a little short staffed. Mom's apartment is big and always kept clean. They have a room where you can visit, but we weren't always able to use that room on weekends. Overall, it is a beautiful facility. They have a very nice walking area, a little garden, and a gazebo that the residents can go out to. Mom has done crafts. They decorated pumpkins. They have a bus take them shopping once in a while. They have a common room where the residents can play cards and gather. There is a nice little library, a beauty shop with a beautician on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a little general store if they run out of essentials.

We toured Heritage Woods of Belvidere. It was an extremely nice place. I would recommend it. It's just a lovely place. I only met one staff member and she was the marketing director. She took us to one apartment only because they were filled up, so that tells you a lot. My husband and I were interested in it because it was big enough for two, and it was lovely. It was on the top floor of the building, a corner unit. It had windows on two sides. There was a bedroom, a bath, a diner, a little kitchen, and a big living area. It was all nicely furnished. The hallways were very wide. The decorations were tasteful, very subdued, but very nice. They had elevators to go down to the dining area. We saw the dining area. We also saw a private dining area. In fact, we had a conference there. It was all very nice, as I expected, because I heard very good things about it. It's a state-funded building, so they take in anybody and everybody regardless of your income. It's a Medicaid building, but what they do is they take all of your assets - your home, your cars, your bank account, everything, and then they promise you a place to stay for the rest of your life. If you want to go in on a private pay basis, that's available too. The main floor was mainly dining. But off of the dining room, they had a small area with books. They had a beauty parlor, a physical therapy room, a small concession where you can buy shampoo and snacks, and they also had private mailboxes. They had a nice greeter at the front desk. It's built out in the countryside. I can't imagine anybody not wanting to stay there.

Heritage Woods of Belvidere was a town away, but it was bigger than the other place we saw. There's a gardening club, an arts club, they have a club for the men, they have physical therapy on site, they have crocheting, cooking, and it seemed more alive; more like senior living. The staff was great.

Heritage Woods was a big place. It was beautiful, but it’s full right at this point. The rooms were beautiful. You would have a living area, and one side of the wall was a very small kitchen. Then, you had a bedroom and a huge bathroom, which was big enough for my wheelchair. Also, I would not have to cook if I did not want to because I could go to the cafeteria and eat with everyone. They had a nurse, a supervising nurse, and a doctor. The staff was very informative and very polite. They showed us an apartment and walked us through the building. My son was very impressed, and I was very impressed also. It was a gorgeous place.

Heritage Woods of Belvidere wasn't as elaborate and as big, but it's very nice and the dining room was situated where you first come in the door. They had some exercise programs and several rooms wherein you could entertain family. Their rooms were small. Most of the time, I saw people sitting in the dining room and out in the hallways. What I liked most was that it was close to home. They seemed to take in more than just assisted living, like people who should be in nursing homes instead of just in assisted living.

I'm very happy with Heritage Woods. The staff are friendly; they're very nice folks. The facility is clean and well kept. Everything about them is great except the food. The food sucks! The taste is "institutional", the quality is sub-par from what we're paying. It's below average.

The amenities were very nice, fairly new facility/building. Offered activities for the residents, movie nights, trips within the community. Staff were patient, caring and understanding with my grandmother. Staff where able to explain things clearly related to my grandmother's health, medications, routine, meal times, etc. Administrators tried to overcharge for the monthly 'rent' and for utilities that we never requested/setup. The space my grandma was in was small, but sufficient, provided a little fridge and microwave, sink, big bathroom, view of the road/fields - good lighting. Dining area was accommodating to family and guests. Elevators seemed like they were located quite a distance from the dining hall, "living room", activity room; however they were located at the center on the living quarters. If a resident (i.e. my grandmother) was only so so at walking/somewhat weak the dining hall/activity areas seemed too far and would need a wheelchair. Each floor in center (by elevators) had a seating area with couches/tv, laundry rooms, nursing office
