"My sister moved to Morningstar Assisted Living. I find them to be a very cooperative, very kind, and extremely friendly community. It's the best location I could get for them. So, I find it to be much cleaner, much friendlier, and I find it a very fun place to be. The staff is friendly. They serve a small enough three meals a day and they have all kinds of activities. All the folks here are very kind. It's kind of a community where everybody seems to get to know everybody. Everything about it is in shape. There's no smell, no nothing. It's a very clean place. I would recommend it for myself about where I need to go. I haven't got my sister that active right now. They're kind of standoffish, so I don't know, but from when I met the group leader, it seemed as though she had a pretty good handle on the activity programs. They're the highest on the value of what they're presenting and allowing and giving for the care and the money you're spending, I think it to be very, very reasonable."

"My sister moved to Pisgah Villa. They encourage people to use their freedom. They also have a lot to do there as far as exercise rooms. The people there are very nice. It's a smaller place than the one she was in. They have a nice swimming pool. They teach yoga classes. They have art classes. I've never eaten there, but my sister told me she thought the food was good. They had a huge dining room with tables and chairs. They take them shopping once a week and assist them if they need an outside doctor. The facility has one psychiatrist and an on-call doctor."

"My husband has been in this facility for 20 days after falling and fracturing his neck. He is preparing to leave and has had the most professional care and therapy. We have come to love these wonderful folks and don’t believe you could find a better place for yourself or your loved one when you need serious care. "I toured Asheville Geriatric. I needed a memory care unit, and they didn't have one. They also were sort of on the older side. The amenities were not as good for the patients. Like for the room, each of the patients had their own room, but they didn't have a bathroom in their room. The staff was very nice."

"I stayed at Angel House 1 for three months. This place was horrible. It was dirty. The food was very unhealthy. They had a physician's assistant who came to see people, and he was very unknowledgeable. It was a very bad experience for me. I will never put myself in an assisted living situation again because of that. The homes are old. They're just in it for the money. They don't take care of their people."

"This retirement home is a great place for my grandparents. They currently live in their own home on the premises, where they are surrounded by neighbors, all of who have served in the Methodist Church. The best thing about this place is that they have their own home and can maintain their independence, but with certain services that make us (their family) and them feel better. For example, there is a yearly full cleaning of the house. Gardening and maintenance is taken care of (unless they want to do it themseleves). In addition, there is an assisted living home right in the same complex. They are able to visit with those that are not in as good of health as they are. And, if something should happen, there are pulleys and an intercom system in their home. Should they need additional assistance, they already know the staff and can even move into the assisted living space without having to transition communities or space. They are very happy there. "

"Care Partners Adult Day services is a wonderful facility. The staff is loving and caring, and knows how to handle recalcitrant patrons. They provide all kinds of activities during the course of a day--veteran's groups, Bible study, singing, dancing, exercise, etc. My husband was very nervous about going the first time, but wihin an hour, he was comfortable and enjoying himself, and ready to go back the next day. He loves going, and misses it when it's not one of his scheduled days. I highly reccommend this facility "

"The cleanliness and their professionalism are few of the factors is why Heather Glen is my choice for my mother. Their Director is extremely informative. She introduces me to all the employees even those in-charged of the kitchen. It is a smaller community as compare from where she was and they are able to give more care and observe what she is doing on a daily basis. They manage her medicine and we know she is taking it properly. The food is excellent. The housekeeping is really good. Everybody is just in a cheerful mood. It is located where it has a good view of the mountains and in a peaceful setting. All the amenities are there and they do a lot of different things with the people like boat rides, bingo, cookouts and they keep them entertained. They keep them active as much as possible. The constantly watch and evaluate them and they inform me if there is anything out of the line and needs to be addressed with my mom. I am extremely happy where she's at and she seems to be more pleased also. "

"Chunns Cove is pretty organized, they have a waiting area, and my mother is usually in the lounge area. They have couches and chairs, a large TV, a piano on one side, and the nurses' desk is opposite that. There's a large outside area, they have a basketball hoop, trees, flowers, and plants going around. It's very pretty."

"Givens Estates is a very nice place. My friend can do whatever she wants. She can take exercises in an indoor pool, get massages, go to lectures, she can go to dances, and even walk her dog. There's tons to do and she can do as little or as much as she wants. She can live there for the rest of her life. If anybody wants to move there in retirement age, it's a good place to be. It's expensive though. "

"Amongst the places I have visited for my mother, my favorite was Arbor Terrace. It was a beautiful building and it was very clean. They have a program that seemed very professional and well done. Their rooms were great. They were spacious and clean. The staff appeared to be taking very good care of their patients. Also they seemed to be very kind. However, they told me that they are not allowed to push wheelchair with patients in them. They said patients have to self-propel their wheelchairs. That is the reason why mother couldn't go there because sometimes she has to be pushed. They said it was a state law but no one I've talked to about this has ever heard of that before. I don't know what's the deal with that, but that's why she is not going there. I would recommend this place if the person is more independent and not likely to be in a wheelchair. "

"My father-in-law is currently residing at Silver Bluff Village - Arrowhead Cove and is very pleased with the care he is receiving. There are four separate facilities in Silver Bluff. He is in an area called Arrowhead Cove and that is the assisted living that's like the first tier. As residents need more personal care, they are generally moved into the actual Silver Bluff. Silver Bluff is more of a nursing home facility. They also have a rehab center for temporary care when older people have accidents and such and they need just a temporary rehabilitation center. Early on, we're having some dietary concerns only because he is not only gluten-free, but he has celiac disease. So it's not a dietary preference, but it's a gluten allergy and he can become very sick with it. So, educating the dietitians and the dining service, there's a little bit of a learning curve initially, but they were very approachable. It was just a matter of educating in the beginning. They have made those changes and they've all been very pleasant from the nursing assistants to the actual head of nursing. The facility itself is cozy. There is a central seating area where they all seem to congregate either in the morning or in the evening. They have their three meals and they have games that are played. They'll have a monthly calendar where they'll have certain activities and people will come in and perform things like cornhole, bingo, trivia, and different things of that nature. He's not always so involved in those types of things, but he has developed more of a social hour. He's gotten to make friends there. He is very involved with the other residents. They have outdoor seating areas when it's warmer. They have activities and different chair exercises. In nicer weather, they go outside and walk. We've not had any issues with the care that we've received. He's done a great job and he's got a few favorite nurses that come in. We have no complaints at all. The staff members are all very sweet girls. He loves the breakfast. The breakfasts are great. Different residents live in different hallways in their private rooms, so he doesn't have a roommate. It's kind of like a little studio apartment. I've not been there during the day when he's had the activities, but he has had fun in the ones that he has participated in."

"I toured Trinity View. Its location is relatively quiet. The people seem very happy. The staff seems excellent. The common areas seem very good."
