What to Consider About Assisted Living in Jordan

Named after the Jordan River in Palestine, the Minnesota city of Jordan is home to more than 6,000 residents, only 8.7% of whom are aged 65 and over. Despite this low senior population, the city has two assisted living communities within the town limits and nine additional facilities located in the surrounding areas.

While the state of Minnesota does not license assisted living as a distinct category, the Department of Health registers sites as housing with services establishments that are managed or run by home care providers. These providers are licensed as either Class A or F.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Jordan

  • Minnesota is one of only a few states that tax income from Social Security. All other forms of retirement income are also subject to taxes, including 401(k)s, IRAs and public and private pensions.
