Long-Term Care Ombudsman | (844) 850-2883 | The Long-Term Care Ombudsman is an advocate for seniors residing in Idaho’s care communities. The ombudsman can investigate complaints made by seniors, their families and others, in addition to ensuring residents are aware of their rights. Ombudsmen also make unannounced visits at least once per quarter to assisted living facilities to speak to residents and conduct basic inspections. |
VA Aid and Attendance Benefit | (208) 426-3754 | The VA Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly payment made to qualifying U.S. military veterans and their spouses to help cover some assisted living costs. Payments are included in the VA pension and vary depending on a range of criteria. As an example, two vets married to each other who both qualify can see their annual MAPR payments rise from $18,243 to $36,861. VeteranAid.org provides a useful tool on its website for vets to see if they qualify. |
Nampa Senior Center | (208) 467-7266 | Nampa Senior Center is a place for the city’s older citizens to meet and socialize with friends while also taking part in a range of activities designed to improve their fitness, such as senior aerobics. The center regularly organizes games of bingo, bridge, and pinochle. A $1 donation is requested for most activities. The center also offers freshly prepared lunches on weekdays for a suggested donation of $5 per meal for those aged 60 and over. |
Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) | (800) 247-4422 | SHIBA is Idaho’s state health insurance assistance program. It is staffed by trained counselors and volunteers who provide free and unbiased advice and support to Medicare beneficiaries and seniors who need help enrolling. The nearest office to Nampa is in Boise. However, outreach programs operate in various locations —typically in senior centers. The counselors can help seniors identify their coverage needs and apply for the best Medicare plans for them. Although this may involve discussing private health care insurance, the counselors will not try to sell plans. Counselors can also help seniors who have been denied Medicare with their appeals. |
Nampa-area assisted living communities must adhere to the comprehensive set of state laws and regulations that all assisted living communities in Idaho are required to follow. Visit our Assisted Living in Idaho page for more information about these laws.
