The retreat was recommended as a respite for my father who is recovering from Chemo. He was to be cared for, assisted and helped on a daily basis for 30 days to start. 1 week in I started having some worries. As communication was not happening at all, Dad was left alone unless to get a meal order and the head nurse told me tough love was needed and he needed to do things on his own. I thought I was being overprotective possibly. Then he fell 3 times, the 1st with no communication, the second no communication until I called twice and then was told he fell and the way it was relayed was it was his fault. The next day he fell again and I was called but told that he was fine as "he said he didn't hit his head". Alarm bells. I had him brought to the ER and he was admitted immediately for Malnutrition, dehydration, lethargy and confusion. I was told by The Retreats head of nursing he was choosing not to eat or drink and he was very clear minded! When he was checked further at the hospital he has very significant bed sores on both heals and his backside that are more than a week old per the appearance and seriousness of them. So instead of helping my Dad recover they literally let him waste away.........literally. They were all so kind and caring when I toured, saying their jobs were to be Me when I couldn't be there........I wouldn't treat someone in prison the way the treated my father. They failed him.......

We like The Retreat at Alameda the best so far. Everything was just wonderful there. Plus, it's close to our home, so right now that's in first place. It's a beautiful building. They have several different rooms, and they're very nice. They're from small single to larger double rooms. They have three or four different rooms depending on what a loved one needs, companionship or not. Sometimes they are alone and sometimes they are better with other people, so they offer both. It's just an exquisite facility, and you can tell that the staff members love their jobs and know what they're doing.

I went to The Retreat at Alameda. I met with Mike, and he broke down all of the amenities and the costs. He walked me through the facility and showed me the different rooms. We went through the physical therapy room and the cafeteria. He was super helpful. It was very nice and very reasonably priced. There was a studio, a single bedroom, and then a double bedroom option for couples to move in together. They had a theater room and a game room. They have professional musicians that would come in and they would just practice there. There was no cost, they would just practice there, and the residents could go listen to the beautiful music. If the residents had games they wanted to play, then they would try and arrange to have those games like having a game night for bingo or poker, whatever the residents were interested in doing. I think there were three people and their whole job was to find out what the residents wanted to do and then try and make it happen. And then they also had a van that they could use if they needed a ride to a doctor's appointment or something like that, and that was really nice as an option. They have a great menu, too. They have standard meals every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they always have an alternative. They always have like two or three choices per meal that stay the same, and so that was nice, too. It's very clean.

The Retreat at Alameda was absolutely a beautiful community. They had activities, but there weren't really any covered outdoor seating areas. Since it's newer, they have not rented all of the apartments yet, so it just seemed a little bit isolated to me. I feel like the people seemed a little cliquish, like they weren't willing to open up and be friendly with everybody. Their dining area was very lovely though, and the staff was very nice. They explained everything and were very hospitable.

The Retreat at Alameda is a brand new facility. When I was there, they had only been opened for four weeks. They only had nine residents. Four residents were in the memory unit, and three people in assisted living. It's a brand new building. It was a little institutional feeling. It did not have the warmth and ambiance of the other facility. The person who took me on the tour was very informative and pleasant. The facility was clean. The only downside is the street is rather narrow. They're building 100-apartment unit across the street. It's adjacent to a small industrial park, so it did not have a large outdoor area. That part was fairly small. It felt more institutional, and the memory unit was very confusing the way it was laid out. I couldn't find my way around.
