I hired BrightStar to help with the care of a friend in the mid-stages of dementia in August 2021. The very 1st visit had to be canceled because the aide arrived 2 hours before her scheduled time. We absolutely LOVE the current aide who has been coming the last 3.5 months. Absolutely no complaints about her what so ever! The company itself is other issue, Already on the 3rd scheduler since August. Scheduling is inconsistent. When the regularly scheduled aide has a day off they do not have anyone to send in her place and we are left without care. Since personal care isn't required at this time I feel that my friends care isn't prioritized. Yes, I have talked with them about being consistent multiple times & yet I get a call on Monday, Nov 8, 2021 informing me that no one will be there on Thursday & Friday (Nov. 11 & 12) The only thing consistent about this company is their ability to be totally inconsistent. I explained to the aide last night that as much as we love her we will begin the process of looking for a new company.

We have just started using BrightStar Care Valparaiso about two to three weeks ago. They offer a wide range of services, like a skilled, companion, and just well-being checks. They are easy to get a hold of. It's easy to schedule. That was the only place that I could find that would be able to help us. I didn't realize that I was asking on such short notice, but apparently, I was, so they were able to assist. They are good communicators. My father said every one of the people that came was very nice, and he enjoyed their company. They came in for six days, twice a day for two hours every time. It was short enough notice that they did the very best that they could to accommodate and cover every shift and they were able to do that. Three different people came that I am aware of. It was pretty short notice, but they were very accommodating. They did a really good job at getting things covered. For the peace of mind that it brings and for the pleasure that it brought to my dad and the ability for him to have some independence and someone to spend some time with, it's a good value. It's hard to put a price on that. My dad's kind of a grumpy old man, and the comment that he made to tell me that every one that came, they were all very nice and he enjoyed their company, so to me, that's invaluable.

Actually have someone help me and not leaving tripping hazards so I do not trip and sprain my ankle. They don't listen, I have not been able to take a clean bath. I am sorry my house is a mess. My husband is a mess but I need help. They need to improve scheduling, wearing masks and having employees actually do work.

We generally have two girls who come out, and both of them are familiar with my mom's equipment and the severity of her condition. I can say that I do feel like the scheduler works really hard to make sure our requests have been filled.

One thing is that they give me a bath and the other is helping me around the house. It takes some of that stuff off my husband because he would have to do that. She is helping me with all that. The people that I've had were very helpful and whatever I ask them to do they do it. Sometimes when they do get here, maybe they're new, so they didn't know what to do.

Our nurse would call her kids at work and cuss them out at our home. They stressed me out. Our nurse was taking on more clients, which caused her to not give the best care to us. They did not give us set days, and the company I have now thought that was ridiculous because you need set days for infusions.

There is one caregiver that is excellent. He communicates with the family, which is essential. The others are poor. They need to improve the diversity of their capability. If they say they have care for an elderly person, they need to send qualified caregivers to give care to him.

I only get three hours a day. I can go to the mailbox, but I am afraid to go to the doctor because it might take more than three hours. I am grateful for what I have. They have helped me so that I don't have to give my dad a bath every single time that he needs one. He is bed-ridden and incontinent. They come once a day Monday through Friday, and they bathe him. It makes it so I'm not bathing him multiple times a day. I would like them to improve their communication and their nurses. They don't seem to be able to keep nurses and customers suffer from that.

My mother has dementia and there have been a couple people from the agency who didn't know what to do. I think they should receive more training about Dementia. The only problem that I have with the agency is that we had about four call-offs in a row in January. Part of it was weather related.

I found out on the third day that the caregivers do not go through a thorough screening process like I had been told. It was such a shock that it profoundly affected us. I was seriously disappointed in what I had to deal with at this point in his care. The third day, they sent a lovely woman, and I found out her story. She assured me that she had never gone through any of the process that they told me they did, such as training the caregivers, background checks, and so forth. That put an immediate hold on my ability to trust them. She emailed me a week later saying that she had quit working for them because she did not want to be affiliated with them. They should run a legitimate agency. The people should be qualified and should be certified. They should not be on drugs or have a criminal record.

I have seven days a week. I am missing two days that I am not getting service a week from BrightStar. I am not getting services Sundays and Mondays. The caregiver I have now covers Tuesday through Friday and does half-days on Saturday. That caregiver is good, but I don't get the hours I need for three days. After 48 hours, there is a cut off and they don't pay any overtime. The cut off cuts off where BrightStar comes in. I don't get service for three days and don't get service in the evening. I used BrightStar, and I was happy with them to a degree. However, the cost was expensive and the minimum number of hours that we had to have is not necessarily what my in-laws needed, and so I was forced to turn to private duty care, which is a struggle for families to try and find. They were more caring than they were knowledgeable. They were very caring -- which was a good thing -- but short on training. They needed to be better trained. It was sufficient, but it could have been better as far as training goes.
