Mom is currently at The Courtyard at Sussex. She started there in independent living and then moved to memory care. I liked the fact that they have activities for them, like any other ones. The only thing I don't like is that they do not have a bus, so they don't do any off-site activities. They've got community rooms, a dining room, a game room, a movie theater, and a salon. They have everything that everybody else has. Mom's room is very nice. She's now in memory care and it's one room with a bathroom. It's very large. The staff is caring and helpful. I think all of these facilities may be understaffed at times, but other than that, I find them very, very good. I've had a couple of different buffets that families are invited to and the food's fine. The facility is very clean. It's a new place. It's only been open for a couple of years.

I toured The Courtyard at Sussex. I took the whole tour and the staff explained everything. The place itself is very nice, but I'm more concerned about what would happen. If something would happen and I needed extra care and I ran out of money and they don't take Medicaid, then what? Somebody has to find someplace for me, and I just don't want to get myself in that position if I don't have to. It was very nice. It is just my personal situation that caused me to not be able to go there. I've only talked to one person there. The courtyard was very nice. I saw one room and that was fine. They have studios, and they have more apartment sizes. I didn't especially care to live in a studio apartment. I wanted to have a little bit more of an apartment-style rather than just a studio.

I really enjoyed the Courtyard at Sussex. I had visited someone that was staying there, and it was just very good. They really help you with the memory and stuff like that, so it was a good fit that way. It just looked like it was a well-run operation. I did meet one lady staff member there, and she was very knowledgeable and good.

The Courtyard at Sussex seemed to be very clean. The food looked good. The facility is 18 months old, so it's clean and in good shape.
