My father-in-law was at Sylvan Crossings Memory Care of Stevens Point. We ended up taking him out of there because we did not care for the care that he was getting. The level of care was not acceptable to us. The rooms were extremely tiny. We didn't care for the rooms either. They were just to sleep in and that was about it. Their activities were probably fair and poor. One of the activities they did was they would toss a ball. I think that they had puzzles that you could put together, but they weren't necessarily out for the residents to use. They had a little patio out in the back, but I never really saw anybody ever go out in the back, at least none of the residents. They had a dining room and a kitchen, and that's about it. I would put none of my family members ever, ever in this place. It was not very good at all. First of all, they have to improve on cleanliness. It smells terrible every time you went in there. They need more adequate staff on the floor for these residents that our memory care. Overall, I think they need to improve on how they respond to the residents. The interaction that was not there that probably could have been there, that would have been one thing they could improve as well. The quality of their food could be improved to some degree as well.

When Sylvan Crossings of Stevens Point was built my father suffered Alzheimer's, so we placed him there. It was beautiful, clean, and incredible. It was a wonderful place, but when I visited recently for my mother I decided it needs to be torn down. It's a dump now and it's sad how run-down it has become.

My Mother has been at Sylvan Crossings for 3 years. The caregivers treat Mom like family and I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have them. When we learned that she had dementia a few years back after our thoughts of her just "being forgetful" came to light, I didn't know what to do next. They've taught me so much, Sylvan Crossings also holds a monthly meeting here in town for loved ones of those with Dementia. It's a small home that feels like home, nobody is ever just sitting in their bedrooms like I've seen at other places and I feel secure that Mom is in the best place she can be.
