My mother is in an assisted living place called Hartland Terrace. It's a very caring place. They take care of your parents like they are family. For activities, the residents do some art projects together as groups and play some games. They also have a huge screen TV that they all love. They don't have a specific beauty area set aside for it but someone comes in and does their hair. It's a really small place, I think they only have 20 people there, but it has a nice setup. They have two different areas. In the middle they have a combined dining and kitchen area, and then they also have a large community area. My mother loves their food, too. I think the value is pretty good. My brother takes care of everything, and he seemed to think that she is definitely getting care that is above and beyond what you would normally see.
