My brother-in-law was at St. Francis Home for a week. It's a great facility, but it would be nice if they had more help. The facility is great. It has been around for a long time. They have respite care of course. The part where my brother-in-law was at was very short-staffed and some people needed a little bit more care than they're getting. They had provided therapy, and all the assistance he needed. There is an elevator, and there are two floors. It's simple enough to get into and out. It's a big facility. It's just a shame that it's not being utilized a little bit more than it is. The location is great. This of course was run by a Catholic organization many years ago. There is a tunnel that leads from the facility to the hospital. It's great because if there are any problems, you're right next to a hospital that has all of the people that care for you. We didn't eat there for any reason or anything like that, but my brother-in-law was quite pleased with the food that he received. It was substantial, and of course, he was on a special diet because of his condition, but he had no complaints about the food. To get around, my brother-in-law needed a walker and so he needed somebody with him to go to the bathroom and things like that when he first got there. They got them through all of that. He couldn't get up and get around because of his condition. Also, he is hard of hearing. He is deaf in one ear, and he has a hearing aid in the other, which gets to be a challenge, too, because he doesn't have very much hearing. It makes it more difficult for him to understand things and things like that, but they did a pretty decent job.

St Francis is the best nursing home in Fond du Lac! We toured many area nursing homes before deciding on St Francis, which was our first and only choice for our elderly mother. She was a resident of St Francis Home for 6 weeks in the medical rehab unit (following a serious hospitalization) and again later for 18 months, before passing on. The care she received at St Francis was outstanding! Communications to family from staff (supervisors and care givers) were continual throughout her stay, and they were readily available for questions. The grounds and buildings are beautiful and well maintained, always clean & well kept. Meals were nutritious and offered a wide variety. There are many activities available daily, games and many things to be involved in. The chapel offers church services for those wanting to attend, and there are frequent planned outings, movie nights, and also musical entertainment & performances on site. As St Francis is linked via a hallway to St Agnes Hospital and Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, it was especially easy to take her to doctor appointments without going out into bad weather! And the Clinic and Hospital facilities offer a coffee shop and cafe, gift shop, pharmacy, and other amenities.

I was absolutely disappointed with how they treated my grandmother. She was not showered for days on end, she was not brought down to meals on time, and they left her in the same outfit for quite a few days. She would have stains all over her and nobody had bothered to even clean her up. My grandmother's coin purse was also stolen out of one of her drawers, and she frequently missed sunday service because the care providers did not want to "wake her", even though she requested to be brought down every Sunday. The staff all seemed to have negative attitudes whenever I would bring up my concerns with them, and my grandmother would still be in the same outfit the day after I talked with the staff.
