My mother has moved into Cambridge Senior Living - Eau Claire, WI. It's brand new, so the building is very beautiful, it's five minutes from where I live, and the staff seems very nice. What's nice is they have the more independent people up on the second floor, and then the ones that need more skilled nursing care are on the first floor, and they eat in separate dining rooms, but they do their activities together. My mother's more independent, so we liked that the more independent ones were upstairs and have their own space. They are licensed as a CBRF, which is what nursing homes are licensed as. If my mother became completely incapacitated, she would not have to move to a nursing home. She could just stay there because they can do Hoyer lifts. The move-in experience was great. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. She loves the food. I like the dining area because it's small. They have two dining rooms, one on the first floor and then one on the second floor. They have a movie theater, a beauty shop, and a spa bath. It's like a great big walk-in tub with whirlpool jets. They have an exercise room with exercise equipment. They have a beautiful big library with a seating area and a table. They have meeting rooms for the families. They've got a lounge area. They have respite rooms. If the family has to go on vacation, the person can stay there just for a short period until the family gets back. They've got a doctor that does weekly rounds and he's got a medical room. The residents there can sign up with the doctor as a primary physician so when they have doctor appointments, the doctor just comes to their apartment. If they need more specialized care, the doctor refers them to a hospital or a specialist that's in the area. They have a podiatrist that comes once a month. They have daily exercise classes during the week. They have movies in the theater twice a week. They have a musical concert a couple of times a week. They have different games. Boy Scouts from the community came in and did cookie decorating thing. They celebrate all the holidays with a party. They've got a pretty full activity calendar. I had the food there once and it was good, but my mother loved it. Right now, she's paying the lowest amount because she's still pretty independent. It gets pricier when she needs more care if she gets bumped up to the next level of care, but that's how they all are. It's comparable to what's in the area.
