My dad has been in the cottages for about a year. I don’t live in Washington so I am only able to visit about 10 times per year. I call my dad weekly and 90% of the time they’re able to connect me with him, which I really appreciate. I haven’t seen any major red flags when I’ve visited. It’s clean and it doesn’t seem like the residents are neglected. I always feel welcome and I don’t feel like the nurses are “putting on a good show” or anything for me either. I truly feel my dad is well taken care of when I’m not there. It took him a long time to adjust, but the last time I went I even saw him making friends with other residents. Christa at the front desk is also really lovely! I will be sure to update this review if anything changes, but I hope my dad stays at the cottages for many years to come—it’s a million miles better than most of the other places in this price range.

My mom has been living in The Cottages of Renton for close to a year and a half and we have been very pleased with the care she has received. I visit 2-3 times a week, my sister once a week and her grandchildren visit frequently on the weekends. I believe this gives me a clear picture of how this place is operated much better than family members who are unable to come as frequently. I see the residents participating in art projects, sing-a-longs, doing puzzles and reading the newspaper and magazines that I bring weekly. There are 3 separate cottages that house residents based on their level of decline. My mom is a bit of a "loner" and always has been but the staff is really good at encouraging her participation in meals and activities. When I arrive for a visit I sometimes see her in the living room by the cozy "fireplace" chatting with others or at the table for meals and activities. Their COVID protocols are impressive and much appreciated and the care delivered by the staff from the front desk to the hands-on caregivers has been excellent. Everyone has been very good at communicating with us about moms needs or concerns. These are trying times for us all and occasionally they have been short staffed but I have never felt she was not receiving the care that she needed. I would recommend considering The Cottages of Renton to families that are in the process of making a very difficult decision on where to place a loved one.

I wouldn't put my worst enemy in The Cottages of Renton. That's the worst place I've ever been in. Very stark. You rent a room with no bathroom and no sink, and the bathroom is clearly at the end of the hall. Their community room was just a little room, a table, and a little small TV. There's about six people in there just staring into space. I didn't see them playing cards or playing games or doing anything. That was probably the most depressing place I've ever been in out of all of them. The staff were very friendly upfront; of course, they are. They're trying to get you to come in so that they'll have another patient. But after that, what I've seen in there, no. Well, the recreation room was just an empty room with a long table in it. There were about six or seven people in there, and a small TV, and that was it. The facilities were very poor. Each cottage had about 16 people in it. It was really depressing.
