If I could give this facility less I would. The staff does not attend to health care needs of the residents. My family member has been there for months now, and there has been no follow-up care to his medical needs. He has not received any specialized care for issues nor and rehabilitation care. They do not have the trained staff to facilitate the attention to residents if they are not able to care for themselves. They do not provide transportation services as specified in the contract and as a few months ago the phones no longer work in the residents rooms.

Royal Columbian is not a place I recommend for a loved one! The staff is not responsive at ALL! They do not interact with family members that need care nor do help assisting with family members to facilitate their care. When I had to first move my grandfather in after being in a hospital for two months, they just gave me the key and said here you. They did not provide any information about the facility prior too (room accommodations, not at all as pictured) or even give us tour or any layout of the facility. We waited for over 45 min just to speak to the Executive Director. Yes, they were aware date and time we were arriving. The front receptionist has not clue as to what needed to be done. She just sat around and stared at us or played on her phone. I had to ask, "isn't there paperwork we should sign?". They rarely answer the phones, if they do it is only between normal office hours, approximately 8-5, so good luck talking to your loved one after you get off work. Email is responded to fairly quickly, but they don’t directly address the questions you ask. My grandfather has been there for two months and has not received a primary care doctor in the area. The facility has pretty much let him sit in his room and waste away and now he is back in the hospital. Did I forget to mention that he went to the emergency room, and they didn’t call me until the next morning, because they could not find my contact information. Seriously, when do you not have family contact information readily available for people in an adult assisted living facility.

I'm in Royal Columbian Retirement Inn right now. It was sold, and they're cutting, cutting, cutting, and people are leaving. They don't want to work here. It's just tragic. We did have bingo, and we're struggling to keep that alive. We're struggling to keep what we call coffee and talk. They still have trips out to Wal-Mart and different stores. We have people who come in and sing along or play piano and that kind of thing. The food is awful. It's very bad here. We have three meals a day. There are biscuits and gravy every week. They serve Italian chicken every week. We have the same menu every week. The building is old and is beginning to fall apart. They can't find a maintenance person. The rugs are shredding. People are spilling all over. It's just awful. The activity directory is struggling. Even with Medicaid, I'm paying $3333 for my little studio apartment.

My mom is in Royal Columbian Retirement Inn. We choose the facility because of the way it is arranged. It has as central core and because it is hard for her to walk and the doctor did not want her in a wheelchair to keep the blood flowing, she is located close to the central core. When you go down the elevator, to the right is the dining room, to the left is the activity from and in front is the living room and a little to the left is the family room. Upstairs is the hair shop and next to the elevator is the library. So, everything is a central core and it is really nice for her not to walk so far. The staff is wonderful and they treat her like a second mother. They take good care of her and they keep me on the loop. I really appreciate that because her memory is very bad. If there's any problem, they call me and get me involve in it. However, they need to improve on the food. But they have a new personnel manager and he is working on that.

I heard from the local people that Royal Columbian Retirement Inn was the best in the area. So I chose it for my mom. Everything was good and I did not have any complaints. My mom had her own private room. They had many activities. She was happy in the facility.
