My mother-in-law has been a resident at the Phoenix at Harrisonburg for over a year and has really enjoyed it and highly recommends. Management is great – always helps to resolve problems. Staff are extremely helpful and very good at what they do. Beautiful clean facility – that is well-kept inside and out. I love seeing their seasonal décor in the lobby area. Everything in the facility is easy for her to navigate with her rollator. The maintenance guy is excellent and always quick to hang items on the wall when asked. The chef is always open to meal suggestions and feedback. The Phoenix location is perfect – very close to the hospital which is convenient for doctor appointments. Mother-in-law really enjoys the craft activities and bus trips (some of her favorites include Gift and Thrift, library, getting ice cream, Green Valley Book Fair, and looking at Christmas lights). Activities and outings have all increased since the Phoenix at Harrisonburg has grown. She also enjoys it when outside groups come for activities – such as musicians and local schools. My husband and I have attended various activities during her stay and have really enjoyed them – such as Christmas Open House, Thanksgiving family meal, bingo, family breakfast, Valentine’s Day dance, and Mother’s Day tea. She loves the snacks and drinks put out in the bistro area for the residents. We have really enjoyed using the activity room for larger family get-together’s – layout and ability to reserve makes it super easy and convenient for our holiday meal. Phoenix is best fit for our needs.

After visiting other places in the Augusta and Rockingham County areas, The Phoenix at Harrisonburg was a clear choice. It is new, well-designed, well-decorated, full of natural light, just the right size and a good value compared to others. A few other facilities we really liked require a high six figure “asset pledge” which we cannot afford. At the Phoenix, the fees are monthly, based on individual needs and easy to understand. We also “did the math” and since the fees are all inclusive, it is half the cost of keeping a home or apartment and paying for in home caregivers and domestic help. We love the staff that interacts daily with Mom…they are patient, caring and well-trained. No facility is perfect, but we feel this is the best of its type in the area.

There wasn't anything I didn't like about The Phoenix at Harrisonburg. They looked to have good accommodations. We had lunch with them, and I thought the food was good. The staff seemed genuinely interested in the patrons. It was a nice place. The rooms were nice and open. They looked like they had a decent layout. They did show me a two-bedroom that looked a little cramped. It was a two-bedroom, but there wasn't a seating area, and knowing the furnishings that my parents have, they wouldn't be comfortable there. The single bedroom was nice enough. I think if I could convince them to sleep in the same room, they would be willing to accommodate that. It was also much newer and they were still working out some of the kinks.

The Phoenix at Harrisonburg was very nice. If you have the finances, I would recommend that. It was small, and the price is out of most people's range. What you get for that money, you could live in an apartment and pay someone to come in occasionally. We spent more time in the independent section. There were individual apartments kind of like a duplex system. It was very nice. The lady who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and very personable. The apartment was very nice, very open, and set up well. The actual activity main area was not very large. The dining hall was small. I was not impressed with the exercise room. It's very close to the hospital. The only thing I did not like about the location is it is right off the main road. There's no quiet setting or anything like that. That was not good in my opinion.

My father has moved into The Phoenix at Harrisonburg. It's been very positive. The staff is very attentive. The facilities are nice and new. I would say it's been a very good experience. It's a very clean and contained unit. The rooms are new. The building is less than a year old, and it's very well staffed, as far as I can see. For my father's diet, they are very attentive to his dietary restrictions. They have crafts, outings in better weather, and they have all sorts of events going on. They also have a chapel. In memory care, it's mainly crafts. They have lounges with televisions, and they have community rooms. They have a private dining room for when the family does come to visit. They do have sidewalks for outdoor walking. They do have outdoor courtyards for the residents to enjoy. They're still building up there, still developing programs. They're still doing things like installing the library, and they're still adding things, doing finishing touches on that. But I'm very pleased with it so far.

We toured The Phoenix at Harrisonburg and we liked the independent cottages. The amenities looked top-notch because the place looked brand new. Everything looked like it was well-kept. The facility looked nice and clean, and the people were very helpful. I don't have anything negative to say about it. The independent living cottages already had a refrigerator, a microwave, a stove, and a dishwasher. There's a patio for each of the bedrooms. The assisted living had a refrigerator in it and a microwave. The staff who gave us the tour could probably use a little more training because I think she works part-time. There were some questions that she didn't have clear answers to. They had a courtyard that looked nice.

The Phoenix at Harrisonburg was the one I liked the most. We met several staff, and they were very friendly, and knowledgeable, and answered any questions we have. They didn't explore all the options without us asking questions though. We had to ask more questions rather than them volunteering the information. They gave us handouts so that we could know more fully and have something to compare with when we get all the information together. It was beautiful and it felt warm and cozy. The rooms were very adequate, and they had different sizes for different levels. Some had smaller kitchenettes than others. They had facilities for activities. They sent us information since then inviting us to participate in activities which we have not yet done. You could get your hair cut there and they had the exercise or physical therapy type things, social events, and they had people coming in to give programs and do craft-type things. It just felt like a nice, cozy place for me. I liked that place.
