My husband has moved into The Retreat at Fishersville. There are several things why I chose them. One is it's relatively new. It's only been in operation a little more than two years, so the physical plant is very updated and modern. Everything is on one level. It's the first floor, so the view from my husband's window is beautiful, and if he looks out in the distance, he can see the mountains, but it's all grass and trees that he looks at instead of overlooking a parking lot or something like that. Also, they have a secure open courtyard in the memory care unit that the residents may use any time they want. Whereas in other places, to get any fresh air or to be outside, I would have to go with him. This way he can come and go to the courtyard and just enjoy sitting in the fresh air, which he had been missing. That's another reason why I like this. Their activities calendar is quite full. They have lots and lots of activities, and they keep the residents very busy. Among the activities, they go on bus trips. Sometimes they're just driving around to look at the scenery, but sometimes they will take them for ice cream or to a local attraction or something like that, whereas some of the other facilities I looked at might go once a month, so that's a big difference. When I toured through there in the middle of the day, most of the memory care residents were out in the common area. They weren't off by themselves in their rooms. They were out. Some were participating in the activity. Some were sitting and watching. Some were looking at the TV. But I did not see a single one dozing in a chair. They were engaged. Also, during that same period of time, there were five staff members. I've noticed in some other places, one, two, and in one situation, none with eyes on those residents. Now, I'm sure that they were somewhere assisting somebody in their room or taking somebody to the toilet or whatever. But this was five people engaged and watching and supervising about 14 people, so I was very impressed with all of that. I've been there with my husband when he has been having a meal, but the meals were very attractive. He ate the whole thing. And I also liked that the portion sizes was very appropriate. There was a delicious-looking dessert, but it was a small portion, just enough to satisfy. But not like you would go into a restaurant and get something really big to justify the price or something. They were adequate portion size without making people overeat and the meals were very attractively presented on real silverware and real plates. No paper or Styrofoam or plastic. It seemed perfect. I was very pleased on Thursday when we were moving in. My husband and his daughter and I were unpacking his things and making his bed and that sort of thing, and the facilities manager came to introduce herself and explained how we should get in touch with her if anything goes wrong or broken or needs attention. And while she was in there, she noticed a light bulb in the bathroom was out (which I hadn't even noticed), but she saw it and within 15 minutes, she was back with a light bulb. So I believe that she's going to be paying good attention to the facilities. Things looked very clean and attractive, and the materials that the floor was made of are easy to clean and easy to mop things. When you have a carpet, no matter how often you vacuum it, it's never clean, and there's always dust or dirt in the carpet, and I liked that there was no carpet in there. In comparison to the other places in this general area, I would say the value for money is very good.

My parents really liked The Retreat at Fishersville. They liked that it was small and the people were very friendly. It was a very beautiful, calm setting. Everything was very pretty about it, but it was a little hard for my mom to get around. It was spread out a lot, so we had to get her in a wheelchair and take her around. Other than that, it was very pretty. The rooms they showed us were wonderful. They were very up-to-date. Thy didn't look dated at all. They had plenty of space. The staff was very knowledgeable and very helpful to me. They had plenty of activities. They had a calendar of events and it looked like the menu was very well thought out. It's very convenient to our local hospital in case of emergency.

The Retreat is not at all what is promised! Rooms are never cleaned, you have to beg for family members to get a shower, food is nasty and to hard or not manageable for the residents and communication is not there. Residents are left alone a lot and staffing is a HUGE problem at nights and weekends! Unbelievable how all of this has been brought to the administration and very little has been done I’m not giving up thought. Please look else where for you loved one..

We looked at the memory care of The Retreat at Fishersville. Everybody was really nice. The rooms were alright and whatnot, and all the elderly patients seemed to be pretty happy with what they had and where they were at. The grounds were OK. When I was talking to the ladies, they said they were getting the garden started. The dining area was excellent. It was like a restaurant. They have a calendar full of activities and they were color coded.

When I was at The Retreat at Fishersville, I asked what if our money runs out and what if our long-term care insurance runs out. Do they accept Medicaid? They do not. The person who did the tour was excellent, answered all kinds of questions, and was very knowledgeable. I appreciated the tour. They were very nice. I would be very comfortable there. The rooms were sufficient for the stage that I would be in if I were going there. All of the rooms I visited had kitchenettes. They had places where you could go outside and it was an attractive place. They said I could make an appointment to come back for a meal. There were facilities where they had activities. They had a place where they could go to see movies. They had a little commissary where they could go to get snacks and just have coffee together. They had an exercise room, and they go on field trips.

I have visited The Retreat at Fishersville, and I love the place. It was just more expensive than the community we ended up choosing. They showed me a studio, a 1-bedroom, and a basic nursing home room. They were fine. They had day trips. They had a library and an activity room. They had things like bingo. They also had a courtyard and patios.

The Retreat at Fishersville was a very nice facility. The tour was not as well as the one that we got at the other place. I was shown around the areas and stuff like that, but they didn't go into detail what they would do for their people that were staying there. It was like a quick tour, like, "Look around, this is what we got and what's available." The staff actually put me in the memory care because they had nothing available in assisted living. Everything was clean. I asked her if they had someplace where they could go out and walk, and she said that they would just take them out and walk around. They had a little grassed area. Overall, the facility was nice. She showed me a studio suite and a double occupancy where they could put two people in, and they were very nice rooms. It's a new building. They've built it within the last year. I was assuming that it would be nice, which it is. They have a barbershop to get their hair done, and she showed me the dining area, but that was really about it. The staff was very nice, polite, seemed like she cared, and respectful.

My parents moved into The Retreat at Fishersville. They've exceeded my expectations, they've been wonderful, and I couldn't be happier with the way they worked with myself and my parents. The rooms were clean and painted, and everything's been tip-top and in new condition. The staff has been absolutely wonderful, very kind, patient, and caring. On the first day, I ate a meal there, and it was very good. The place is very clean and they're very welcoming, but there's not a great deal going because of the COVID virus.

We chose The Retreat of Fishersville because the cost was affordable. The nursing staff seemed very knowledgeable and very kind. They're very willing to work with my Aunt's unique preferences and personality. I chose the place because I felt confident that the staff would be able to appropriately care for my aunt who has unique challenges and some unique strengths as well. Also, they were very positive and very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable that my aunt would be well cared for. The facility seemed very clean, very well kept but it's mostly the people who seemed happy to work there which isn't always the case with nursing facilities. There were nursing stations and it was a circle so that nobody can get lost. When people are wandering about or wheeling through the halls in their wheelchairs or using their walkers, even if they forget where they are, they just keep walking and they would end up where they need to be. It's a big circle which is helpful so they have the ability to actually be outside in a nice area that protects them and nobody is able to kind of wander out without anybody knowing. I felt good about that. I'm not sure if there were a lot of amenities per se, but they have a cafeteria for breakfast, lunch and dinner where they can sit in small groups. They have an activities director who's amazing. They had a bible study group, my aunt loves bible studies and they have it every other week and it made me really happy for her. She loves to go to bible studies. They have a lot of arts and crafts and a lot of trips outside. In terms of amenities, they have their PT and the OT staff on-site. They also have a physician, a hairdresser, and the ability to get your nails cut on-site. With activities, bible studies is my favorite thing so once I heard they have bible studies, I was happy. They also go on trips, shopping, arts and crafts, dances and physical activities.

I did an in-person tour of The Retreat at Fishersville. I was very impressed with it. That was a very nice facility. They're brand new physically too. They're very professional and very welcoming. They did have an empty room that they were allowed to open and let me see it, and we did go into the dining room. The dining area was a nice, open, brightly lit format with a courtyard on the sides, so it had lots of extra light coming in. A large, fabric, patient's chair, they had wheels on them, but it looked like they were heavy chairs otherwise. It looked like it was a very clean environment, it was very inviting and relaxing, neutral colors, and just pleasant. The bedroom, I think they call it a semi-private because you have two rooms and a Jack and Jill bathroom. We couldn't go all the way in, I could just look in through the doorway, but from what I could tell, it was a nice looking facility. The room looked like it would fulfill the needs. It was also very close to the hospital.
