I had a meeting with one of the administrators at The Lodge at Old Trail. I told her that I don't need assisted living yet, but I will need it, and when I do, I want to see how that's handled. She was very forthcoming. It's a beautiful building, it's very well kept, and it's very well made. There are some special things there that a lot of places don't have. For example, if you have an automobile, you can park your car in a garage underneath the building so it's completely out of the weather, and things like that are special. I have not eaten there, but I've been told that the food is really good. I've talked to some people who live there and they seem very pleased. It's a beautiful building inside and out, and I got the impression that the caretakers are very pleasant, knowledgeable, and caring. I got the impression that they're very careful about how they treat people, and that the people in assisted living are treated extremely well. In fact, that's where I'm probably going to decide to go myself when the time comes. There are some other buildings nearby, but they're all very new and very beautiful. The Lodge at Old Trail is a very nice building (or set of buildings) itself. It's very close to a part of the town, and there are places like the ACAC fitness center where you can go and work out that are just a five-minute walk away. They really treated me like I was a member of the community right away; I was very impressed with the quality of care.

We had a tour at The Lodge at Old Trail, and I think it was lovely. It looked like a relatively small, clean, caring place. What impressed me was that they also had an independent living facility, which I like because I can be close to my husband while he is in the memory care area. The food was good.

At The Lodge at Old Trail, I found a nice two-bedroom with a patio that really appealed to me. The staff showed me around and was very pleasant. The community is new at only about four years old, I think.

My impression of The Lodge at Old Trail was very positive. It was attractive with a lot of space for the individual units. They were modern, clean, bright, and reasonably priced. The person who accommodated me was very good and very personable. They had a whole host of activities.

The Lodge is new, and they're having some growing and starting up pains. They've only been in operations for three years. The food was always salty which I thought was strange for this kind of facility. Everybody complains, but they don't seem to be doing anything about it. It has beautiful apartments. The place is wonderful as long as you can take care of yourself. But when you need help, there are a lot of things left to be desired. I thought that they lack some staff. There are a number of activities there. They do have an activity bus to take you grocery shopping or to the library. It is kept very clean, and it's a nice facility. It's wonderful as long as you can take care of yourself. They have both independent and assisted living facilities, and my friend is in the independent living.

My mother-in-law had stayed in the assisted living at The Lodge for a year. We chose it because it was a new center and it was in our town. It was clean, spacious and had a high ratio of caregivers to clients. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was extraordinary. I liked that it was like a community with three levels of cares. It had everything you needed. It had arts, movies, theater. They brought in people from the UVA that were working on research with yoga and dementia. They had all the games, arts and crafts, and there were people who came in just to talk to them. They had activity directors that exercise them on whatever level they were at. It had an exercise room, beautician's room and art room. It had a pub, a deli and a little country store. It was proximate to a golf course and other stores nearby. It was like a little village and my mother-in-law was happy there. The view was beautiful for them. They had a garden where they could work on. They had physical therapy on sight. It had independent living, assisted living, higher level assisted living and dementia care. They did a really nice job.
