When he was released from the hospital, Dad went to Parsons Residential Care Center. It's a very old facility, but it was clean and the people were very nice. Unfortunately, he hated it. His room was very small and he had to share a bathroom. He liked being there, but as time went on, his things were being stolen left and right. His room was very tiny and he kept begging me to find him a new place. There were no family or friends, and he very seldom had a visitor. His room was filthy. When I moved him out of there, I could not believe how trashed the room was. The bathroom had toilet paper all over the floor that had been stepped on for days. The food was disgusting. If you didn't like what they fixed for meals, you got a peanut butter sandwich. It was frozen food. There were people that were very nice and there were people that were just nasty. When I told them that I was going to remove my father, they became very hostile toward me. He had gone to the hospital and when he came back, all of his shoes were gone and a whole bunch of his stuff was missing. When he told the director that he had no shoes, she laughed and went home. They found his shoes and housekeeping put all of his shoes in the very back of the cabinet. When I complained about it, the director became very nasty toward me. Down the hallway was one big open area, and everybody just congregated there in their wheelchairs. They would just all be sitting there hunched over or halfway falling out of their wheelchairs, just sitting there doing nothing. There were no activities and no interaction.

We were referred to Parsons Residential Care. They could take my mother, who is a double amputee, and it was perfect. It was an older facility, but it was well maintained. They were very family oriented, they had a calendar of events for all the patients to participate, and it was a good location. I would recommend that location tremendously. The care and concern of the patients, the nutrition regimen, and the location all stood out. They had single and double rooms occupancy. The rooms were great. We came unannounced, and we were impressed. A lady comes and cook for them, the food was very balanced, and people were looking forward to it. I highly recommend them.

Deep Creek Manor is affordable. It was in the price range that he could afford. It was more like a house than a hospital. It doesn't have the hospital feel to it. Everyone there is really nice. They have been bringing in a physical therapist, and they bring the doctor onsite to take care of my grandfather. He is clearly happy, and he's adjusting easier. So far we been mostly been bringing him home with us. The facility is a little bit older but good. It needs a little bit of maintenance on the outside. The inside is kept really clean and everything. It is just an older facility; that's all. He hasn't been there that long, so we are just trying to get adjusted to having him over there. For me more than waiting and attending on the facility, I am more so adjusting to having him over there. I guess that just says a lot for the facility too. I'm not wrapped up in all these horrible things that are going on.
