I have my husband at Birch Creek Assisted Living of Smithfield because it's just close to home. It's a new and clean place. He is in the memory care, and they have people that care and follow the rules. It's gorgeous and organized. They have a contract with a company that offers physical therapy, etc. They have exercise equipment. They do swimming, and they take them on trips to different places around the valley.

My wife will be moving into Birch Creek Assisted Living of Smithfield. It's close to my house. I did have lunch there and it was excellent. They didn't have a courtyard, but they're connected to a housing place that the same people own and they got a pool there that people can use. It's new. The bedroom size was sufficient. It's right next to a pizza restaurant. There are a couple of other restaurants a block or so away. There's a grocery store about maybe two blocks away that has a pharmacy.

Birch Creek was brand new. It just opened about two months ago. The rooms were small and the price was high. When I stepped inside they were still doing construction and putting up furniture. I haven't been in it since then. The staff during the visit was extremely distracted. We had an appointment and he hadn't quite finished with the people in the appointment in front of us. He kept leaving us to go over and visit with them, and I come to find out they were close friends. So we just kind of toured it ourselves, but he did take us in one section and gave us the price and the information. We didn't feel like we had been really catered to at that place, but I'm sure it has changed. The kitchen was just getting its equipment up. There was sawdust everywhere and cords from electrical equipment, and they were still installing the elevator. I wasn't able to check anything. I'm sure that they've already improved because they're open now and they have staff. We were just dealing with one person that was there and there was a lot going on. They just need to be more attentive to the person that they're touring with.

Birch Creek Assisted Living of Smithfield is beautiful; it's roomy, airy, new, and has many things that others don't have. It's the Taj Mahal of care facilities. It was just very comfortable for us now. My impression of the people working there is that they're all upbeat and very happy to help and assist, all of them were very good. They showed us a 1-bedroom, but it's challenging to move from a large home, and trying to figure out how to put the things you want in a 500 square foot home is a little intimidating. It's one of the only 2 that we would consider. They have just about anything that old people would wanna use.
