About Rocky Mountain Care Sarah Daft Home in Salt Lake City, Utah

Sarah Daft Home is one of the oldest nonprofit assisted care facilities in the country. In 1904, Sarah Ann Daft envisioned 'a place where lonesome old people can go to live out their lives without worry where the next meal is coming from, or where they are going to get the winter's coal or necessary clothing.' Our doors are always open ? we're family. Everything we do here at the Sarah Daft Home, we do with a sense of togetherness. We come together for meals, activities, and friendship. The community of staff and residents at Sarah Daft work together to provide a wonderful environment where residents will thrive, not decline. Everyone works together to give one another a role and a purpose. Because we're a small home, with a small staff, we're able to operate in ways that are more human; less corporate. We believe that we have the best staff because each human who works here is motivated by compassion, not money. To learn more about this provider's license and review other available state reports, please visit: Utah Department of Health and Human Services

I visited this facility

We liked Rocky Mountain Care Sarah Daft Home. If my mother-in-law had been more independent and was able to navigate herself more, we might have picked that place because we liked the homey atmosphere. They had a creative activities director, and the people were involved in games. They had some beautiful quilting work that some of the clients had made. They have a common gathering room, but it's not for people that are more dependent or need more guidance. I think it's more for independent people. There was a lady in a walker, but she was mentally fine. They have different rooms. They have some where they have to go across the hall to a shared bathroom with showers, and then they have like apartments where they have their own private bathroom. They were larger, and we liked those. The second one was like a studio, but it was pretty large, and the third room that we saw had a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. It's an older place, so there is that to consider. But if my husband and I had to choose between that and the other place, we probably would have chosen the Sarah Daft Home because we just like the cozy community atmosphere there. After all, it is smaller. The staff was nice. A lot of them have been there for a long time.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Sarah Daft Home is a small place. They seem to know each other there. It's very home-like. My husband's room was kept clean. He was well taken care of and he liked the food very much when he was there. The dining room was a big open room with tables for four people. The surroundings were very pleasant. It had a nice view from the windows. The dining room doubles as a social room at times, but they also have a separate social room. Then they have people that come in for entertainment. They played bingo, had a van that took people on outings, and women who came in to cut their hair.

I visited this facility

Rocky Mountain Care Sarah Daft Home is an old historical building and that is what you need to expect when you go in there, but the people who work there have been there forever. They are the nicest people and you know that they love what they're doing because every employee we saw was smiling and happy. They were interacting with the residents. It was just a very peaceful feeling there. They have a huge craft room and they have so many cool ideas that they do. The lady was doing streamers out of water bottles and they make a lot of things out of recyclable material like toilet paper rolls. They do little figures out of those. It was really cute. She's very creative and just great. People just love her there. It's clean and nice.

I visited this facility

It was fine, but I didn't care for the location. I saw a studio and a one-bedroom. They had a nice library room and a really nice community gathering room for hosting small social functions and church services on Sunday. The staff was very open and friendly.

I really liked the warmth here. They were friendly, but my friend has an electric chair and their building is not compliant, so we couldn’t use them. They were able to tell me all about their activities, meals, snacks, doctor care, and the extra things that were offered. I had a list of questions that I asked them, and they were able to answer all those questions well, so I felt that they would be very adequate for a different person but not for my friend.

I visited this facility

It is a good place for my mom, but the only problem is that they need to be solely on a walker, and mom needs to be on a wheelchair. They were quite thorough in explaining what their activities were for the seniors there. They have three meals, and snacks are provided all day long. The staff was quite informative and extremely helpful during the visit.

I toured while looking for my grandmother. I was impressed with how friendly the staff was, and how happy the residents looked.

I visited this facility

It was lovely and very homey. The rooms were large. They had kitchenette facilities. It was quaint. They have things that my sister would be interested in like book club and writer’s club, so it is for more functioning folks. We would really like her to be there. There were some people in the crafts room doing craft activities.

I visited this facility

This facility is beautiful. It's not only an incredibly old facility, but a historic landmark as well. Time has only seemed to age this facility well like fine wine. Consequently, just like my friend. She's lived in this area of Salt Lake City all her life and I think she finds it comforting to spend her twilight years here as well. Most of her remaining family live in the area as well and she loves nothing more than visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The staff are extremely friendly. They not only treat my friend as her own person and not just a number or "another old person", but they also recognize my friend's family when they come to visit. They even ask often about her newest great grandson who was born premature. They even helped her to visit the baby in the hospital when things were looking grim and supported he emotionally when I couldn't be there.
