My parents have been at Emerald Cottages of Waco for several years now. They like it there. They like its location, their fellow residents, and they like the facilities. They like their apartments, it is very well done. It's upscale, for what it is. The facilities are nice, the grounds are nice, and the price reflects it. The staff is nice. However, since it's independent living, their interaction with the staff is more limited than it would be if they were in assisted living.

We were able to visit the Emerald Cottages. It's more of an independent living unit, so you would have your own apartment or house. We saw a 2-bedroom and 2-bath cottage. As far as looks, it was updated and seemed nice and very clean. The marketing director, I believe her name was Jenny, came from her house to personally give us the tour because we didn't know that they don't give tours on Saturdays and we came from a 40-mile drive. To keep us from having to come back another day, she came on her own time, let us in, and showed us around. I thought that was very nice of her. She told us about the place and showed us the separate living area. It seemed nice. Since it was independent living, we would have our cottage and occasionally we could go to the dining hall. Mainly, it was just like being in our own home. I'm sure there are activities for people to do, but we were more interested in the rooms and the cottages themselves.

I'm living at Emerald Cottages of Waco. I like its size, the size of the rooms, it's very well constructed, the woodworking is nice, and the kitchen is nice. Everything is nice about it. The staff is wonderful. The lady I've dealt with is the best, and she has done everything to make our move-in comfortable. I cook my own food in my kitchen, but they have luncheons every now and then for us. People rent their own cottages, and we have great activities at the clubhouse. This is a perfect place for me.

Emerald Cottages of Waco was very nice, and it's extremely independent. It's for individuals who don't need any assistance or help. They had little cottages. The staff who worked with us was excellent. It's very clean, very adequate, and spacious, and had lots of amenities that were very nice for a couple downsizing with no medical needs right now. They had a community center where they had activities open to the residents. There is no dining area. It's landscaped nicely, and it's behind a shopping center. It's a new facility.
