This is long but if your considering moving in well worth it, My experience with helping my grandmother who lives in The Cottages of Oak Springs. While these gated apartments might be financially affordable it’s NOT WORTH the hassle of dealing with the property manager. What initiated our appalling experience was on a Friday evening my grandmother experienced a maintenance emergency and as a result she was unable to use the toilet. She attempted to call the maintenance emergency number but the number was not working, would not even ring. By Saturday she was still unable to use the only toilet in her apartment and her apartment office was still closed for the weekend. That night with the emergency Maintenance still down and no way to contact the office we had to get the toilet fixed ourselves so that my 78 year old grandmother didn’t have to go a third day without a working toilet. This situation left me frustrated so I left voicemails explaining everything and requesting to be called back that Monday. Monday came no one called me or my grandmother to even acknowledge her maintenance emergency. So I went straight to the office after work at 1:30PM the office was already closed for the day. This added to my frustration that the office would open and fail to recognize an emergency and then close early making them unreachable for another day. On my next day off I went to the apartments at 9:30AM to ensure I would be able to speak with someone. I called the office when I got to my grandmothers and no one picked up the phone, I promptly walked to the office. When I walked in the property manager quickly over spoke her elderly little assistant who was turning to assist me, and told me they would be with me in a moment. She then finished what sounded like her personal conversation before turning back to me again. Not sure if the personal conversation was the reason for them not answering the phone or it was a relation to the maintenance emergency Number not working, I started the conversation off by telling them I had just called and no one answered maybe, their phone doesn’t work. From that point on I was met with rude Confrontational exchange as The property manager realized I was the one leaving voicemails over the weekend. My goal was to get a time and date so that maintenance can enter my grandmother‘s apartment to work on the toilet. Never releasing her hostile tone the property manager said plainly no, they don’t do that, aren’t going to do that. When I flat out asked if they could just give notice of when they are going to enter her apartment the property manager said she didn’t have to and if she heard something in the apartment she would just walk in herself. That comment lead me to ask for who manages the complex, the property manager laughed as she answered and then smirked as she told me, I would be happy to give you their information in which she illegibly wrote on the back of a card. I was forewarned by others about how rude the property manager was and how she will exploit her position to nit pick and intimidate tenants until they move out, and in my experience she was definitely lacking professionalism, with her rude attempts to over power the conversation by interrupting me and talking over me repeatedly, I now understand how the elderly tenants of this senior community reciprocates that energy from a taller bigger sized women as intimidating. So I will keep this review updated with any updates that resembles retaliation/intimidation to us sharing our experiences.

Management not very personable or helpful. Can be very rude. Need to exterminate more often, landscaping not kept up, hopefully activities will resume soon. Maintenance questionable. Definitely needs improvement. Owner(s) should consider new management.

Don't move here. This place is not maintained well. I've lived here for several years and the sprinkler system has never worked. We are senior and disabled citizens that can't always sweep our porches and the siding is nasty. My front door is so dirty I hate touching it. They was suppose to power wash the buildings, but as with most things here it has not been done in several years. For the price of this place we get nothing in return. We have few amenities. A pool, and a picnic area, but that is it. We have no choice of television cable, we have to pay extra to park under the carport. The rent goes up every year and the maintenance goes down. Gutters are stopped up, no or very little grass, landscaping is non existent. Carpet is cheap and there is very little opportunities to have it cleaned. The cleaning is from a cheap place and they just barely clean and then they are gone. The one time I had my cleaned it took 10 minutes. Run from here as soon as you can. I have no money to move on or I would be moving.

I have lived at the Cottages for 14 years and love it. I have seen many managers come and go and Judy, the one we have now is by far the best we have every had. She is trying very hard to get the faults of the place taken care of and she goes out of her way to help all of us residents. She even just put on a special Valentine day breakfast for us. The pool is in it's winter woes but have been promised it will be ready for Spring. There are always people who see the worst in every situation when they need to look for the best. Chad our maintenance man is great and works so hard to keep all our problems met. If corporation would let us have full time maintenance things would get done faster, like garbage bags being picked up on time. There are people who could take their own trash out but let the guys do it. I feel very safe here and hope to be able to stay another 14 years. I'm 75, do you think I'll make it.

When mom first moved in we had to clean the apartment ourselves everything was filthy the dishwasher was caked with filth, ... . They schedule a time to pick up moms garbage, she is supposed to put it out on her porch on a certain day and time to be picked up and it usually NEVER is which leaves my mom either leaving her garbage in her bathtub until one of us can get there or struggling to walk to the dumpster and lift the lid to put it in her self .The mail never gets picked up out of her mailbox, which is very far from her apartment. They don't fix things that need to be fixed, or half way fix them, the air conditioner/heating filter is scheduled to be changed once every two months, she went almost six months before it was ever changed, (we had changed it ouselves in between that time). Its alright for the price... (you get what you pay for)

I have lived here for 7 years and I just had a tire cut along with 6 other residents. The gate is broken for months at a time. The street lights around my place (3 of them) have been out for months and they still are not fixed. I stated my concern after the tire lashing, and said I didn't feel safe with someone running around the parking lot with a knife and was told that if I didn't feel safe here, I should move. Take your chances if you decide to live here I had to rate in one star, but, it should be a 000..

Cottages of Oak Springs is an independent 5-star place. When I visited the place, I can see that they are taking their business very seriously, but I did not qualify to live in there. They have full calendars with things for the people to do every day. They have medical people coming in to talk to the residents. They have lunches and they do bingo.
