I am/was a resident of this facility

I stayed in this facility for 3 weeks. The room was spaciousness with a lovely view. Housekeeping came in daily to clean it, floors, bathroom, bedding and surfaces. This facility does not have the smell or atmosphere of a nursing home. My daughter chose this place for me. She said she went to all the facilities in the area and turned around and walked out without further inspection. Highland Meadows was the only one she toured and was impressed with the atmosphere. The doctor and his assistant are amazing, gentle, with the very best bedside manner I've ever encountered. They studied my case and history and made physicians orders that met my special needs and they kept me out of pain so I could heal. Except for two days, they visited me every day for 20 days to monitor my progress and made certain the nurses were following their physicians orders. The nurses were kind and helpful. There are specialty nurses for certain needs such as wound care. Everyone had a cheerful attitude. The personal care staff were very knowledgeable and attentive and there was no one I didn't like. I had one incident that caused an issue when there was a delay in the nurse call button being answered in a timely manner. The issue was addressed by the supervisor. They are generous with the food, and they receive visitors with open arms. I truly felt like everyone had my best interest at heart. The therapies are excellent and one weekend PT told me he works full time at another facility and fills in at several other nursing facilities and none of them even come close to being as good as this place. Highland Meadows tries very hard to provide a safe, pleasant place to heal.

I visited this facility

I loved Highland Meadows Health & Rehab. It was a great experience. They were very helpful. The facility was very clean. There was nothing I disliked about it. Because my mom is on Medicaid, she will be in a double room where she'll have someone with her. For a double room, I think that's an adequate size. The building is very neat and very clean. I know there's a common area coming in, and there are other common rooms where families can come in and visit their loved ones there. They have a room that you can rent if you want to have a birthday or that type of thing. I only visit with one staff. She was wonderful, and she was knowledgeable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother broke her leg in June 2021. I wanted to find someplace close that had good therapist so I picked this facility because I thought it was a skilled nursing facility as well as a rehabilitation center. My mother was there for two weeks and I was there every day from 10 o’clock until six or later. They do not allow you to go in before 10 AM. Because my mother had multiple comorbidities, I’ve always been very hands-on with her care. First the good, the person answering the phone was very pleasant. The place is centrally located right off of I 30. They allow you to bring your dogs up there for a visit if they have all their shots. They tell you everything you want to hear when you’re scared and don’t know where to go. The therapists were very good. The place was fairly clean with a very welcoming lobby and a nice outdoor courtyard. Unfortunately what they told me on the phone did not line up with what they had available for her care when we entered the facility. I explained to them that my mother had a port that could be accessed easily and I was told that would be no problem. When I got there it was a big problem and they did not want to access the port, they wanted to put it in her arm even though she has a lot of difficulty with veins. They call in an outside source to do this and as I explained to the doctor, I wanted to be there, unfortunately the outside contractor did not get there until midnight when I had already left thinking they would do this the next day. The next day, at 10 AM I went in to see my mom and the needle in her arm and the equipment they used was all bloody. I asked the head nurse about it and she sent someone in there to clean it up. At that time I was having to catheter my mother three times a day and they did not have very good equipment so I had to bring mine from home and help the nurses who seemed to have very little experience do it. They never did it on the schedule I wanted them to do it on, I was scared she would get a urinary tract infection. Fortunately she did not however the head nurse that was there rather than taking off her shirt simply pushed her sleeve up on her arm for them to insert the device . My mother got a blood clot because it was like a tourniquet on her arm and when I brought it to their attention, I was the one that was reprimanded and told by the administrator that I had made one of their employees cry, which made me feel awful and deflected any responsibility on their part., if they only knew how many times they made me cry during her stay. That did not matter to them at all. My mother had to be on blood thinners which as everyone knows exacerbates a patient who is inclined to fall and it did. The medicines I had to bring in because they didn’t have them we’re not kept up with nor dispensed accurately even missing the dosage completely a time or two. I constantly had to question them to make sure that she got the right medicine at the right time. If you go in blindly accepting the care that they give your family good luck, it may work out. For us it did not work out. If you have an eye to see and the experience to do so I won’t like what you say unless it’s changed in the last year.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was transferred to Highland Meadows Rehab Center from the hospital and stayed in Rehab 2 weeks. The Rehab facility and, more importantly, the people were great. The food was very good and hot food was always served hot. The PT and OT therapists were excellent. The Rehab takes COVID-19 seriously and had appropriate precautions. Although the Rehab offers many activities and amenities, I did not participate except for Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions, due to COVID-19 precautions and my relatively short stay. My husband was at the Rehab during most visiting hours and was also impressed by the facilities and caring personnel.

We put my mom in Highland Meadows. We chose them because they seem to be able to give her the care that she needs, and it's close to home. She's in hospice care right now. It's clean. The people that work there seem to be able to talk to us and take care of what we need. I've only met a couple over there. I've only been there during one meal, and we had to change it. They gave her a chili dog to eat, and she's 95 years old. She can't hold a chili dog. My mom is bed-bound. She can't get up, and she can't get in a wheelchair either. She's never going to take advantage of activities over there. When you walk in, it's a pleasant environment. It's got a lot of light, so it's kind of cheerful in there. They've got plenty room for people to visit and sit out. The first day I noticed the floors were kind of dirty in the room where she was, but yesterday they looked pretty good.

This facility has been wonderful. The communication of the staff, the care of the nurses and doctors, the cleanliness of the building, and the therapy all exceeded my expectations. My mil has been at other facilities and you can truly see the difference a privately owned and operate facility has vs a corporation.

An amazing facility!! My mother in law was there for a while and the care and attention she received exceeded my expectations. The facility was extremely clean and the staff was so friendly and caring. They have so many activities for the residents to keep them engaged and involved. We couldn't have asked for a nicer facility for her. Thanks so much to the staff and care givers of Highland Meadows!!

The facility is nice and employees are mostly nice, but many have heavy accents which make it difficult for the elderly to understand. Personal belongings occasionally disappear and some of the aids do not listen to residents. Some of the rooms are not kept clean enough and that depends upon which housekeeping employee your loved one gets. The food is average at best, but they do allow some substitutions, although not enough. The staff has been excellent at keeping Covid-19 out of the facility.

Highland Meadows Health & Rehab is fairly new and nice. There are 2 nurses at the station, and my friend has 1 nurse sitting with her because she has a tendency to fall. They are nice and polite, and they take good care of her.
