We have chosen Iris Memory Care for my uncle because they specialize in Alzheimer's and dementia. They have been attentive to his needs and follow all Covid regulations. He seems to be very happy there. He enjoys the food. He is eating and he is actually gaining weight. They have various activities, too. The thing that I like is that they encourage him to come out of his room and participate. The facility is very clean and the rooms are nice sized.

I did a walkthrough of Iris Memory Care of Turtle Creek. The lady that I talked to and the receptionist were very nice and helpful. I've nothing, but good things to say about them. The amenities were clean, well kept, and nice. It was a smaller facility. I think they said they have 29 residents, and I'm attracted to that more than a large place that may have 100 or more. The apartments were on the smaller side, but they were clean and well kept. My biggest problem with them was some of them had shared bathrooms and some of the bathrooms did not have showers. They had free cable if you have a TV, and they had common areas that people could share.

I thought there was one that was more convenient or something that I could visit conveniently because it was on the way from my place of work to my home, and so if my mother had been placed there, it would have been very convenient for me to drop by. Silverado Turtle Creek was a relatively smaller community, and that probably would seem better than being in a much larger facility. But that is my own personal preference and other than that, the facility was clean, and it certainly appeared that all the people were well cared for. They were friendly and showed me around. It was a one-story kind of a building, and obviously stairs aren't very useful for older people who are in wheelchairs and limited, so that made sense. And the gardens were nice; they had gardens that probably would be a value to older ladies like my mother who like to garden.

While searching for a place for my brother's friend to live, we decided to take a look at Silverado Senior Living - Turtle Creek in the Dallas area. It is conveniently located for the family, and there are many of my brother's friend's acquaintances in the region. We were really impressed with how well the grounds were kept and how nice and accommodating the staff were. The residents are regularly encouraged to participate in a variety of activities, from exercise classes, to things such as creating artwork, play group games and sign up to take trips into the city for all kinds of fun outings. The communal areas all seemed to have a nice level of energy and participation. They are a full-service assisted living facility - with regular meals, snacks, housekeeping, a wellness care program, and personal care, as necessary. The exercise center includes daily yoga and aerobics exercise classes. Residents can also safely navigate the lovely garden pathways and courtyards. The dining room, activity rooms and lounges were all nicely decorated. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. We saw residents playing games, watching television and reading, while some were in the media room watching a movie. Based upon what we saw, we would recommend visiting it for anyone looking for a place for their loved one to live.

The main thing I remember was the staff. They were actually very nice and tried to make everybody there comfortable. I even remember the guy making my grandmother smile (well, halfway at least). I don't think she was very happy there, the place was nice but I don't think she had a lot of friends. It wasn't smelly at all or anything but there was some serious rules about smoking and she LOVED smoking. Another thing I remember about the place was the VIEW. My granny had an awesome view, and she would just stare outside most of the time that we were there. The furniture was pretty nice and I remember that a lot of the other old people there really didn't seem as bad off as my grandmother. In the end we had to move her there because of the money situation, and she HATED the other places we took her, so I'd recommend this place.

I was highly impressed with Silverado in Dallas. They had easily-accessible bathtubs for my client to get in and out of without having to raise his feet to keep him from falling. He was also in a great program called "Dementia Care" that helped him with his memory - and a detox / veggie diet that helped him to regain his strength that had lost during his work. It was a large facility, but there were less than 100 people there. It was a perfect amount of people to have social activities - but not overcrowded to where the staff could not keep up with who is who by memory. Silverado was more like a custom-home apartment complex for the elderly than the "generic nursing home" structure. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in the Dallas area who is looking for senior care assisted living.
