I was not happy with Hurst Plaza Nursing & Rehab. My husband got pneumonia while he was there. I didn't like it. I don't think they had enough help, but they were doing the best they could. He had no activities at all. They had a room that had windows in it, and there was a whole bunch of people with memory problems looking out those windows. It was an older building, and the value was way too high for what the VA provided. The people I worked with were nice.

My husband moved into Hurst Plaza for rehab. The people are very friendly, nice, and helpful to me. Hes been in two different rooms; the first one was extremely small, and there were two patients there, but they moved him to a bigger room, and it's much nicer and has room for an extra chair. They have a beauty shop, do activities, and take them outside the home occasionally. The food is pretty good, and sometimes they have good sandwiches and desserts.

The rooms are nice at Hurst Plaza although they are just average rooms. They have two people in each room. It’s well-kept, and they have a little dog that roams around, which is nice. The residents really enjoy that. The food is average, looks reasonable, and smells fine, but my mother is on pureed foods, so she has to have everything pureed. The people are very nice and pleasant. We had issues with forgetting that my mother cannot speak for herself because she has Alzheimer’s, so we have to remind them to make sure that she drinks and she eats, and they have her on schedule so they do follow up through that. To me it’s reasonable, and I’m sure they can improve more. We work together. If there is something that I am concerned about I bring that to them, and the next day or that same day they start noting it and fix it. It’s very nice. They do have like activities as to going out. They go to a senior citizen community center. They have little things that they do there. They go to wing star -- the ones that can go -- they go buffet luncheons, they do go to Wal-Mart, and I think they have been to bingo sometimes. They do things with the residents. It’s really nice that they take that time. They do have their own bus that they take them out with. The one thing that they can improve on is the turn around. I wish they could keep the people. It doesn’t pay as much as we would like, like the teachers, people in that type of field. I wish the pay would be more so that we could keep the people that are good that would stay there because of the pay. They tend to have a lot of turn around.
