I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is a resident of Avendelle at Merriman Parkway in Dallas, Texas. I have found this facility to be outstanding in every way. My father's room is spacious and comfortable. His bathroom, room and the entire house is always clean. His laundry is done quickly and doesn't build up. It's always folded and put away. We have no problems with clothing or personal items being lost or misplaced. My father is 90 years old, incontinent, wheelchair bound and has vascular dementia. The staff care for him in a calm, friendly manner and attend to his needs always with prompt and efficient gentle, grace. My father feels very much at home at Merriman Parkway and in fact believes that he is at home. Meals are prepared by the staff and served family style at a large dining room table. Each residents dietary needs are attended to while still making the food taste and look good. Although there are many exercises and activities offered, my dad often prefers to read or listen to music. The staff invite him to the activities but don't push him if he doesn't want to come. He also enjoys talking with the staff. They talk with him as well and treat him with dignity and respect. Each week I get a report from the house manager about my fathers week, doctors appointments coming up and any supplies he might need. I find this to be an excellent way to open the door to communication. I talk with the staff frequently and they are always ready to help me get things done for my dad A doctor or nurse visits my father at least every two weeks and accommodations have been made for him to have extensive dental treatment in the home. Finding a place for my dad to live when he could no longer live at home has been one of the most difficult things that my brother and I have had to do.The marketing director was very helpful to us in making our decision. She took a lot of time with us and answered every question to our satisfaction. My dad has been living there now for 5 months and all of our family has been very pleased with every aspect of his care at Merriman Parkway.

I visited this facility

We stopped in to take a look at Lexington Place Assisted Living Homes as an option for our aunt. We really liked the look of the building, which resembled a ranch style house, rather than a facility where seniors live. Our aunt has lived in the Dallas region for quite some time and would like to stay in the region. She has always been very active in her community - and living in this facility would allow her to continue. The neighborhood setting of the environment really gave a comfortable and homey aura. The seniors can enjoy the best of everything here - from a nice, quiet and peaceful environment - to everything that Dallas has to offer -- including fine dining, art, music, culture, cinema, theater and more. The amenities offered include a lot of very stimulating and enjoyable activities such as moves, games, parties, the library and crafts. The foods offered include regular fare plus special requests are accommodated with ease. Friends and family members are encouraged to enjoy meals with the residents as often as they like. Each nicely designed living space includes everything the seniors need. All area has call buttons in each of the rooms so that residents may contact staff at any time. Staff also does regular rounds to ensure the safety of the seniors at all times. The restrooms are all equipped with safety rails. We could see that the residents are very happy with the kind and caring staff while living in the well designed living spaces.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandfather became a resident of this facility shortly after being diagnosed with severe Alzheimer's. I'd have to say that as far as nursing homes/assisted living homes go, this one is not too bad. The center isn't actually a center at all, its a house. It can only accommodate a few residents at a time, and I really liked the idea of with it being a much smaller setting than your usual nursing home, the residents get more individualized attention. The residents have their own bedrooms (my grandfather's room included a really nice flat screen TV). One of my favorite aspectsof this facility being a home environment, is that they really play up the family vibe. The residents gather around the dining room table for every meal, they can lounge around and visit with family in the living room, they even have entertainment for the residents in the form of music and dancing. My only complaint about Lexington is that in the last couple of years there's been a lot of turnover with the staff. I don't think its great for the residents, especially the ones who suffer from Alzheimer's, to see so many new faces going in and out of the facility. Also, some of the nursing staff can be really unprofessional, gossiping about the families of the residents who live there in front of visitors, carrying on about their love lives, etc. Overall I would recommend Lexington, I just feel that a more professional staff would better suit this facility.
