I just wanted to express my appreciation and admiration for the Daniels family and OakWood Place. I have a parent living in OakWood for several years now. Never a complaint in all those years! The Daniels family are local and so hands on...not a corporation from somewhere else that owns the facility. I have experience with two more facilities and there is no comparison with the care, the food, the staff, the nurses and even the laundry! You wouldn't think laundry would be such an issue, but just put a loved one in a care facility and you will certainly appreciate no lost clothes! I cannot express how pleased we have been all these years and continue to be....just hope the new memory unit is ready by the time we have to have it! It looks like it will be wonderful! We checked the Oak Wood Place Assisted Living last summer. We toured this place for my sister, but even when my mom was there, I was there pretty much every day, and they had great meals. They took time and really cared for her. All the residents there were really friendly and wanted to sit around and talk. I mean, it was just a really nice place. Well, it was great. It was clean. It's got all kinds of activities and I mean, it's a really good place. I would recommend it. They can go shopping, they have bingo, they have movies, and they have all kinds of activities to involve the residents with, something to keep them busy if they were interested in doing that, and if they weren't that was fine. The food was awesome, it was just like going to a cafeteria.

Oak Wood Place Assisted Living is beautiful, absolutely beautiful, but way too big. Just walking to where the room was that my mother would be in, we went past three different sitting areas, and like I said, beautiful furniture, but mother had to sit down and rest in between. It was just too far, too big, and I felt like she would use that as an excuse to stay in her room, and not come out and socialize. My mother didn't like it because it was too big. The people that I dealt with were very nice, we walked past the dining area, and we saw one room. It was very nice, it had a separate bedroom from the living area, and the kitchen was real nice with a full sized refrigerator.

Oak Wood Place had space for a limited number of residents. There were no openings during the tour. I wasn't impressed with the rooms. They were very small and the furniture needed to be upgraded. I wasn't impressed because they seemed a little outdated. They were having some type of birthday party for somebody when I visited, so they were serving cake and ice cream. However, the staff member didn't seem very interested in showing me much of the place. I was able to see a room, but there really wasn't much else that she showed me.

I especially like the independent living cottages at Oak Wood Place. They were 2-bedroom, 2-bath, so in other words, two people could live there. They're very nice. There are plenty of rooms and they have nice-sized kitchens. Their food is very good. The staff is terrific, they treated us how we would want to be treated. Cleanliness is excellent too. The location where the community is at is very close to the city of Athens. It has access to transportation if you need it.

The staff at Oak Wood Place was not as friendly as the other place we've been to. They are not as personable and it seemed different. One of the things that we didn’t like the apartment is it is smaller even and it was just one room. The location of the place is fine and their grounds are pretty. They do have a lot of activities. When we were there, they had a little band that was playing.
