Mom has been a resident for 8 years. She loves it there and has made many friends. She is in an independent apartment close to one of the clubhouses (they have 2). She plays table games with friends, has a group she eats with most nights, goes to the shows or movies. Her 2 bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable. There is extra storage for each apartment in the garage. The garage is an extra fee up front. Mom chose not to do that but was assigned a parking space. The facilities are clean and the staff is great. The front desk is always helpful with questions and the restaurant staff is friendly. The only reason I gave 4 versus 5 stars is because they are expanding too much. The wait time for dinner is longer and they just announced 55 more 'homes' . Not sure if that means apartments or actual homes but they are trying to service out of the same 2 clubhouses. They are already understaffed (mostly due to COVID). They announced a price increase of over 9% on the monthly fee which is pretty drastic. That has not happened before. I think they are growing too much and I worry that services will suffer. I visit mom often and love the facilities. I have eaten in both the bistro and the dining room with her and both are good. SHe can either use one of her 'guest passes' for me or she can just pay a very reasonable fee for me to join her. Think - under $20 - maybe around $16 or $17 for a full multi-course dinner. We have had a drink at the bar before dinner (just a couple of dollars for a glass of wine) and I have sat and listened to some of the music in the lobby. There are lots of choices there. Mom has also occasionally needed some personal care assistance to help her after illness or surgery and you can hire someone to come in for just a few hours a day as needed. That was so helpful to help mom bathe and do laundry and she could still go to dinner with her friends and not pay for someone to be with her all day if she doesn't need it. The nurse checked in or her when she is ill and she sees the doctors right in the offices in the clubhouse. It is a wonderful place. I would recommend a visit.

We were impressed with Shannondell at Valley Forge. We took a tour of the areas that they wanted to show us, which was their recreational stuff and the grounds. The major thing we liked was that you don't give them all your money. You get to keep your money and pay a certain amount per month, so that's something that's appealing to us. The place was very pretty, very sharp, and very clean. We had a nice lunch there. The food was very good. It was nicely prepared, attractively presented, and nicely served. Everything about it was top-notch. The facility is very attractive, nicely appointed, and cheerful-looking. It had good landscaping, too.

We've chosen Shannondell at Valley Forge. We're going to put down a deposit to hold an apartment in that unit. It seemed to be a good fit for our interests. It's a well-kept place, clean and neat. Our interface with Megan was good because she was there to help us make decisions on what we wanted. They had a lot of information that they presented. There are a lot of activities, such as for my wife who liked the pool, they had water aerobics, and the apartment can be close to where the dining hall is. The meal plan is 20 meals a month, which is good. Your apartment has a kitchen in it and it's nice that it has its own washer and dryer, so you can take care of your own clothes. Having the kitchen means we can make our own breakfast if we want to or we can go down to one of the six dining venues for lunch or dinner. The apartment is cleaned twice a week for you, which is good. They have a swimming pool, water aerobics, fitness centers, and a photography club. I'm interested in photography so is my wife, so that would be nice. There are all sorts of current events discussions and things like that. They have theater performances, woodworking classes, activities, or things that we would be interested in doing. We've only seen two or three different people there, but everybody seemed friendly when we were walking around the halls. Megan interfaced with everybody, and it appeared like she knew everybody that was there, so that's good, too. I think the food is going to be great. Shannondell had what they call The Club, which is a golf course that's there, and we've eaten there. They have my favorite mushroom soup at that place and it's the same chef, so I think it's going to be great. I haven't seen anything that I don't like. They're one of the best facilities we've seen.

My mother is in Shannondell at Valley Forge. She transitioned to their personal care unit from her independent apartment. They have a flat fee. They don't have any of those other levels for personal care or they don't have any charges for medication. With them having a flat room fee, we were able to calculate her budget easier. It was a simple move because she was in their rehab on the second floor and their personal care unit is on the fourth floor. They put her on the elevator and took her upstairs. My mom lived there in the independent living area for 16 years. She's been there a long time. It's a very wonderful community of people and a lot of people comment about that. The people that live there all kind of come together and they share a lot of activities. It's kind of a close-knit community. The facility itself went above and beyond during the pandemic to keep the residents safe and fed. They made sure that they got their meals every day, which doesn't normally happen in the independent area. They made sure that they got their vaccines on time. They monitored activity and adjusted visiting hours accordingly. They're still adjusting visiting hours depending on how the virus is waxing and waning in the community. They listen to the voices of the residents. They have regular residents' meetings in regards to activities, meals, whatever is coming up. The people that run the place listen to the residents and try to follow their wishes as much as they can. If you go to visit, you can have a complimentary meal with them. The food is great. They are feeding a lot of people and some of the residents grumble that it doesn't come hot enough and that kind of thing, but the food's good. The menu varies, and they have several dining options. They have a dining room where you go and pick from a menu. They also have an area that's a little more casual called the bistro, and it has a little more casual menu like hamburgers and that kind of thing. They don't have breakfast. They only have lunches and dinners in the independent area. There are 30 residents on the assisted living floor. They have the whole floor. They have their dining area, their living room area, activities room, and they've got a movie theater. Their meals are delivered to them. They get three meals a day. The food is fresh and it's hot, which is important to my mom. They can pick from a menu. They order their meals ahead of time. They don't sit at the table and order a meal. The dietitian monitors what the residents are ordering and adjusts the menu accordingly. They've added protein shakes to mom's diet, just to make sure that she's getting all the nutrients that she needs. They put out a calendar at the beginning of the month. I know today is bingo. They have regular activities. A lot of the residents on that floor right now have some form of dementia, so they're not that active, but they've had an ice cream social, they did some arts and crafts, and they have musical entertainment that comes in. They also point out to the residents' different things. Shannondell has their own little television station and on there they have exercise programs and they have great courses or different lectures about things. On the activities calendar, they usually note different programs that are on the TV that the residents could enjoy, too. I don't see the things that you see in the news where patients are sitting in hallways or patients are abandoned, that kind of thing. There's a full staff of certified nursing assistants on the floor. There's another nursing staff there, but I have to say the CNAs are amazing because my mom gets up three times a night to go to the bathroom and she can't do it herself. All she has to do is hit a button and someone's there to help her to the bathroom. They make sure that she showered. They get her dressed in the morning and help her pick out her outfits. The facility is beautiful, very clean, and attractively decorated.

I chose Shannondell at Valley Forge, and will probably move in January. The place itself is lovely. I thought it was beautiful and well kept. It had pretty much what I was looking for, which were many, many activities and meals. We only met one person who was the person that showed us around, she was very friendly and knowledgeable, and she was able to answer whatever questions we had. There was a bank and a beauty salon. There are doctors' offices on the premises, which is the medical center that I normally use, that has offices there. There are two movie theaters, a performing arts center, and a lot of hobby rooms for various hobbies, games, and cards. The place is very large.

I tried to join the community and they will not permit me to join and care for my mother without their meal plan. Their food is mushy and overcooked. It’s also wasteful and harmful to our planet because every single resident in the thousands consumes meals and take out packaging daily. It’s also extremely overpriced and you don’t get your money’s worth.

We are so happy to write a most positive review of Shannondell, especially at this time of great angst for everyone (April 2020). They are all taking such wonderful care of our Mom and her fellow residents; she a resident at Shannondell for 13 years. Many, many thanks to all the staff at Shannondell!!! The Maio Family

The rooms are excellent and the staff as well. I enjoyed doing crafts and i went to a few movies as well. The food was good, I just wish there were more salads at lunch.(I don't like to eat heavy). There is a bistro for families and my husband loved it

I was very impressed with Shannondell at Valley Forge, including the amenities that were available, like swimming and bocce. I tried the food, and it was very impressive. They have three restaurants, and a nice dining room. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The building was very nice. I plan on moving there.

My mother is at Shannondell at Valley Forge for rehab. In terms of taking care of my mom, the girls there are incredibly excellent, very friendly, very courteous, and we liked them a lot. However, it's very apparent they don't know what they're doing in terms of medicating, and I was disappointed because of this. My mom loves the activities, and I've had friends visit my mom and they also think the activities are great. My mom loves the food, and it smells great. However, if she stayed after rehab it would be too expensive.

I really expected better. Two weeks after explaining to the executive director that the resident has frontal lobe damage from falls prior to moving in, she and the director of nursing proceeded to sit down with him to discuss his behavior, telling him he is too loud and impatient. What? True, from a conversation with him it doesn't seem that brain damage is apparent because he has a good memory and communicates well. That, however, doesn't negate the fact that behavior changes are apparent and that he is not able to control certain urges (like yelling or loudly voicing his opinion). (Not to mention that this meeting was supposed to happen on a certain day when he waited in his wheelchair for close to two hours for her only to find that she left the building for the day without giving him any notice or having someone else give him notice.) She also continues to tell him that he should be able to stand during changes regardless of the fact that it he has been unable to bear any weight on his legs for the two years since his stroke. There are a handful of wonderful nurses/aides on staff and therapy seems to be able to deal with him, but training is obviously lacking in many areas as is communication. Things appear to be going downhill rapidly. I am so disappointed.

Shannondell at Valley Forge was a very nice place. The apartments were very nice. The people seemed very nice. The staff was, I think, reasonable. The only problem I had was that we had looked at a couple of apartments that we like and we're on a waiting list -- which I understand -- but nobody ever called back after nine months about anything. Also, they sold it as a continuing care place, yet the day we went for the seminar, they couldn't give us any information on continuing care. I like the place. It was lovely. It had beautiful facilities. I mean it's a beautiful place, but as I looked into employment opportunities to see what their staff turnover was, right now, they're looking for 43 people.

Beautiful new rehab facility that cuts every corner to make more money. One nurse for 20-30 patients depending on the floor. Visitors must pay $14 for sub par food. Pay extra for anything and everything. Mostly nice people who work there but they will tell you how overworked and understaffed they were. First night there I was one of two new patients and if my sibling hadn't been there I would have been in major trouble. I couldn't get any help at all and had to wait 25-30 minutes at times to get help from RN or CNA. Don't go there unless you must!!

Shannondell was very elegant, and it’s the best I’ve seen. My sister is there, and she’s got a 2-bedroom apartment. They’ve got a theater, lunch for them, a dining room, and a general store where you could pick up things. It’s very nice. The dining area and the food were excellent. The staff and the people were very good. It’s a beautiful facility -- the building and apartments. Everything is top notch; it’s a 10.

Shannondell at Valley Forge is nice, but I didn’t like that my mother-in-law is in the nursing unit of it as we were not satisfied with her care there. The best way I can describe it is like going on a cruise. Basically, she has her own townhouse, and she her own full apartment. It’s independent living with perks; it’s like being in a resort, and it has its own swimming pool. They have two dining rooms; one is a formal dining room. The food is excellent food, and they have movies and activities. The level where she is now, the independent is excellent. They had different levels of care, and they have a medical unit for people recovering from surgeries.

The staff at Shannondell at Valley Forge were most helpful when I went in. I saw several different floor plans, and they invited me to dinner and the theater. The day I went in, they said to come back and see our shows. They were very friendly. The place itself is absolutely gorgeous and really beautiful. The food is great. They just sent me a calendar for the month with activities from 9:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night packed in every hour with something to do, like theater, music, arts and crafts, and physical stuff. You could never go back to your apartment if you didn't want to.

"The Emperor's new clothing" looks good at first glance. The nursing team and social worker never assessed my mother but rather worked thier protocol to get her (and everyone else) out in 5 days. No consideration was made for her age, living alone ina 3 story home, and no way to drive get food or prepare food herself. They rushed her out with a visiting nurse 30 minutes 2 days a week and a therapy 3 days (which only happens only two days. No one stood with her in the bathroom to assure she did not fall or teach her how to manage in the shower. No one suggests getting her extrememly swollen legs elevated above her heart. Most disappointing was the social worker. As a social worker myself, I was shocked by the staff social workers total lack of advocating for my mother. She works only for the Shannodell and was of zero assistance, As a reesult, I have had to rent a sedan ( to get her home and to doctors) take time off of work and hire someone to come in 6 hours a day to assure my mother has meals. I am the sole provider in my family. The dining facilities are filthy. The menu and tables were dirty. The food is not freshly prepared but frozen and microwaved. ALthough they cleaned the carpets in the rooms ,everything else including the bathroom was horrible.

Shannondell was excellent. We thought the facility was amazing, but their smoking policy made it that we would not have been able to have my mom in there. It’s like a resort-style living. Really great facility, you never have to walk outside if you don’t want, and all different buildings are connected through bridges. Staff was very caring, lots of activities and resort-type grounds.

I recently spent almost 3 weeks at The Meadows while recovering from a fractured hip and hip replacement surgery. I recommend this place very highly. There was one aide who worked the night shift who consistently made me feel uncomfortable. However, he was the single exception. Everyone else - doctors, nurses (especially Emily and Morgan), physical therapists (especially Lisa and Peggy), occupational therapists (especially Sandy and Julia), social workers, and administrative staff - were very helpful, caring, and professional. The food - other than breakfast - wasn't great, and so I lost 5 pounds while there. But if I ever again need a rehab facility, I hope The Meadows will have a bed available.

Shannondell at Valley Forge, in general, has been OK. I have only been here for 10 months. Everybody is very, very friendly. I find the food more than adequate. The exercise program, the lectures, and the concerts are wonderful. My room is very comfortable. It is very much like the apartment that I have moved from, which I owned privately. We have a medical facility with doctors, nurses, and rehab onsite. There is a very, very extensive program for recreational activities, i.e., for going shopping and going to the theater. There are a lot of things to be at.

Extremely disappointed in the lack of care. My mother went there after a broken hip and we were shocked at the bad care. We had to constantly tell them of things like the pain in her stomach (then they confirmed a UTI), the broken wheelchair took 2 days to get a new one and she ended up with blisters on her heels because they were dragging on the ground - they took 2 weeks to heal. I would never, ever recommend this to anyone. Looks nice, but better to take a relative home than do rehab there - she came out worse than when she went there.

We were very impressed with the environment and the food at Shannondell. We went there and had dinner with a friend. The food was incredible, way beyond whatever we had for lunches in the area. It was a VERY unusual and updated, modern menu. The menu keeps up with the appetite that young people have. There are combinations of ingredients that you don't see being fed to older folks. In addition, that was absolutely the most gorgeous environment; when you walk down the hall, you feel like you're living in a 5-star hotel. That's what my husband and I felt about it.

The Meadows at Shannondell is by and far one of the best assisted living facilities available. Juliette and Emily on the second floor go above and beyond to make sure our loved one is taken care of on a daily basis. We sleep better at night when they are are working. Thank you for hiring staff that truly care about our loved one.

We visited Shannondell was very, very nice, but it would take $260,000 to buy in there and then you're looking at $3,000 a month after you buy into it, so that way out of budget for us. The facility is beautiful maybe that's why it cost so much money to get into it. The apartments are nice and they have all the amenities a person could possibly want. The grounds are beautiful. They are well maintained. If one has the financial means to live there, I think a person could be quite content living there.

I wanted to be near Philadelphia, so I chose Shannondale. It's a beautiful place. The apartments are nice and the staff is good. I am in a 2-bedroom and 2-bath apartment with a library. However, the food they serve has too many calories, too many sauces and gravy. They don't have a lot of plain food.

My Grandmother was moved here after my Grandfather passed away. It was nice for her because she had trouble getting around at their old home. Stairs were particularly difficult for her and having her bedroom and bathroom on the same level was a perfect living situation. She was also able to socialize with her peers. She stopped driving years before moving here so it was hard for her to have friends. While living there she could visit her friends without having it be too much of a hassle. The community there was really nice and were friendly to my brother, who was much younger, probably about 5 years old, at the time. The staff there were professional and friendly. The staff left her to her lead her own life until her health took a turn for the worse. They were then able to step in and help her in a time of need. They were never overbearing and respected our choices and feelings. The home is located across the street from a strip mall, where my grandmother could go for groceries. (She loved cooking and baking!) It was wonderful for her to spend her last days there and I can't imagine it any other way.

Shannondell is one of the most beautiful and well managed CCRC's in the U.S.! Residents enjoy resort style amenties, activities and un-ending thought-provoking programs. They also have a wide range of apartment floor plan styles and combine this with a caring, professional staff that anticipates the wants/needs of their residents! A great role model for CCRC's everywhere!

Although it costs a pretty penny, Shannondell is an absolutely beautiful place for retirees. The community is extremely beautiful. The food is incredible and there is a wide variety of meal options, the facilities (pool, game room, theater, etc.) are up to date and extremely pleasant to visit, and the place truly is a wonderful place to live. They always have events going on such as plays, concerts by choirs from nearby schools, and other entertainment. They have group movie nights, outings, and other ways to keep their residents from getting bored. The staff is friendly and helpful - these are people that absolutely love and are dedicated to their jobs. Whenever I visit, I have so much fun! It's like a mini city, with salons and other cool places! Though I do not know anybody in the hospital, I've seen the facilities and they are high-tech, up to date, and clean. The patients get the complete attention of the staff, and nobody is neglected. I'm glad we found a genuine, honest assisted living facility, where there are absolutely no worries.

Beautiful facilty very tightly guarded! This is top notch in rehab and also has a unit for memory care, thus privacy and security are important...and they handle it well.I had a personal experience (outside of my professional visits) of having a firend go through rehab there....she spoke SO highly of the care and the staff, and considering she was a retired RN and hospital administrator, that speaks for itself. She clearly sang their praises, and how determined they were to get her back on her feet and feeling her normal self.I was impressed with each of my visits....by not only the professionalism but the clear demand for resident privacy!I HIGHLY recomment The Meadows.

I am hard pressed to find a nicer community! This facility is consistantly on the go to make their resident truely feel this is HOME. The activities available are broad and varied. It is very obvious the resident feel safe and cared for in this upscale, but warm friendly facililty. I have seen the wellness nurses reach out to assure a resident's well being....not just medically but on a personal, emotional level. On one of my visits, I wittnessed a receptionist who noticed a clearly disraught resident; she stepped away from the desk for a moment to sit the lady resident down in a cozy private area and she assured her while holding her hand....everything would be alright, and that she would call someone down to further assist. I was definately impressed with that seemingly small but very impactful outreach.

The Meadows at Shannondell is by and far one of the best assisted living facilities available. The staff is extremely friendly, the facilities are beautiful, and there is of course always a well trained medical staff on site. Shannondell provides its residents with an experience unlike any other assisted living facility or nursing home. The facility itself gives off more of an air of a vacation resort rather than a home for the elderly. However on one of my visits to Shannondell I did encounter an incident where one of the staff members was very rude to my family, practically scolding us for not knowing where to go to visit our family friend living in the facility. Though this is most likely a onetime incident, it is still due to note that perhaps they should screen their employees a little bit better. In all Shannondell is a wonderful place, and a perfectly suited facility for anyone in need of assisted living.
