I visited this facility

Rae-ann Westlake was a little outdated and it was kind of dirty. We visited at about 2:30 in the afternoon and they had not cleaned up the dining room yet. I know they're short of staff, but it just felt like it should have been kept up a little better. I liked that it was a smaller nursing home, so it felt like a close community. That was a good point of it. The lady that gave the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms were small and I don't think they had any private rooms available there. They all have roommates.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother was in an extended care for awhile in Westlake. This facility is near us. There were three Rae-Ann facilities around that area but the one my mom was in had a stroke center. They deal with a lot of rehab for stroke patients and there's less emphasis on Alzheimer's and memory impairment stuff. We chose this facility because, firstly it had high rating. The other thing that was a real deal-sealer for us is that my parents live practically across the street from it. We felt it would be easy for my dad if he want to spend time with my mom. It was really the proximity. Also I live 15 minutes away from there, so it was easy for me to get there to help out with things and to visit. Rae-Ann wasn't really fancy but it was nice and clean. My first impression of it was that it looked a little old and kind of not so cheerful, but it turned out to be exactly what we needed. The staff was very kind. We never had any problems with them. They didn't neglect her. At times, we noticed that they would get confused about getting medications on time; however, they were very good to my parents. They even let my dad have a cot in my mom's room so he can stay there. They're wonderful about giving them what they needed to go through the situation emotionally.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

To start off, my grandmother is from Youngstown, Ohio. She sustained a fall and afterwards loss some mobility--due to a broken leg and loss some cognitive abilities. Luckily, she had great insurance and my sister and I set her up at this facility. We were impressed with the staff, the room and the overall accomodations. Clearly, the manager and the staff were familiar with such a difficult process and made it work smoothly for my sister and I. We were given the rules but not in a way that made you feel like a kid but in a way that was designed to show you how they do things in their facilities. They set my grandmother up with a exercise therapist who was to help her daily in trying to keep up with her movements. They also kept sheets that would document her progress so I was always informed as to what was going on with her even when she could not respond. Overall, my impresion and the facility was with overall staisfaction. My grandmother was there for a couple of months before she passed. The overall sutuation was very heavy on the heart--draining emotionally and physically. But I have nothing bad to say about the facility. the best compliment I can give is that I did not notice them which means that they did not hinder the process in such a stressful time.
