I had seen the Regina Health Center. The least thing about them was the rather tight quarters. Also, it was not bright, it was not roomy, and it was kind of dark and depressing. There was not enough attention to the residents. If they needed to go to the bathroom, they might have to wait 45 minutes to an hour. I would not rate them very highly based on those two main factors: The patient-caregiver ratio and the environment. I've experienced professional fine people there, and I've experienced people who were very disrespectful there. Like the patient aides who work hands-on with the patient were very disrespectful, and the clerk behind the desk was very, very disrespectful. I've also experienced nurses there who were very professional. The food was very inappropriate in contrast to the doctor's orders. If you're not allowed to have X, Y, Z and they serve you X, Y, Z, even if it's good quality, that doesn't do you any good because you can't eat it. However, the building was clean. It's difficult when you're in a memory care unit, there are a lot of incontinent people, so that's always an issue. But I wouldn't degrade them on the cleanliness from what I had seen.

Regina Health Center had a very solid staff professionally for the nursing and skilled care, and then their rehab and exercise program -- my mom broke her hip in three places and she's 91 -- worked her very well for the six or so weeks, and got her back occupationally -- understanding how to open things, how to get to the bathroom, how to navigate around the house and that kind of thing. She still does her exercises that they were doing twice a day with her in the rehab and the exercise program. The staff was run by the sisters, so it was a good environment for her. The cleanliness was top-notch. It was fairly religious, and there was a lot of retired priests that were there and a lot of sisters that either were retired or going to rehab there of the Catholic faith, so it was a great environment. The food that she had and the care was good, so there was no complaint from our end.

I visited Regina Health Center when I was in high school as part of a service volunteer project. We were assigned to sing Christmas carols to the residents living at this place. The place was decorated with many Christmas decorations. The patients there were very happy and responsive to us as we were going around the center singing for them. The center as a whole was very nice, but it had a particular smell to it, which wasn't the best. However, this aside, it was a very good experience for me.
