My father has been in Shawnee Manor for almost three years. We highly recommend their dementia unit. They have had no turnover in staff. All of the staff is excellent. However, the nursing home had staffing issues, and we don't recommend it. The grounds are nice and include a couple of nice patios for the residents to go out on, and it's a convenient location. They have private rooms, semi-private rooms, and remodeled rooms that are in very good condition, very nice, and very pleasant.

My mother was in Shawnee Manor. They had very good therapy, but they're understaffed. The staff was nice. They didn't have many activities and when they did have something, they never came down and got my mom. They had a gym and a hair salon but mom never got her hair done. They never came down and got her. I had to go every day and clean her room. She started in a private room. They moved her to another room, but they moved another person in with her and there wasn't enough room for two people sharing one toilet and one sink, that's why we moved her. It was easy to get to and it's close to my house. It's near fast-food restaurants.

I spent some time in Shawnee Manor. I broke an ankle and my daughter was working, so I had to go in there for six weeks. It was extremely nice, and they were very good. They had very good programs, a beauty shop, and therapy. I really liked it out there.

I am really impressed with Shawnee Manor’s quality of care. They’re generally concerned with their people there. My mother went there in December. The environment is very clean, and I didn’t see any issues with cleanliness. I am very impressed with this one. If anybody is looking for a place like that, I would highly recommend it.

The staff is extremely helpful. They're always helping my grandmother with things that isn't part of their job. SHe really likes the physical therapist that comes to work with her. While she won't go down to the dining room to eat, they allow us (the family members) to go down to the kitchen to get her supplies like bread and milk. The staff is always friendly to us as well. The rooms are very nice with lovely views. Wonderful facility.

I visit a relative here and I really like the facility it is very clean and newer looking. They have crafts and a little ice cream shop they open up sometimes. They have a restaurant type kitchen for the residents with a menu and several food options so if they do not like something they can choose something else. It helps them feel like they have more control over something. The staff is very friendly and they seem like they care for the people who live there. One time when I was visiting an elderly lady had an accident in the dining room and a staff member noticed it and instead of embarrassing the lady she tried very hard to get her out and cleaned up so no other residents noticed to spare the woman any embarrassment. Another time was on Halloween they gave all the residents a bowl of candy to pass out to the little kids who were trick or treating, they loved seeing all the kids' costumes and it brightened their spirits.

I would easily say that I would not want to spend my last days in a nursing home. Whenever I would go there I would feel like I was entering an environment where people had accepted their own death. There was no sense of hope and in all honesty it reminded me of a Resident Evil video game. Although the workers were friendly when I went there it wasn't as if they enjoyed what they were doing. It seemed like it was just doing rounds, like each of the employees were robotic and completing tasks off of a checklist instead of trying to make sure that the residents were okay. The tasks and activities that they had almost seemed insulting. Many of them were for little kids like coloring, creating cards, doing simple puzzles, and reading picture books. Some of the residents that were also living there with my grandfather were really nice, but most of them were sad. Quite a few of them had family, but they never came to visit. Although there was medical staff all around, it really seemed like a place that psychologically would kill you faster than your medical illnesses. Overall, it was not a bad facility and the workers did do their jobs in a timely manner, I just wish the environment overall was better.
