O'Neill Healthcare Lakewood is a senior facility that has assisted living when we need it. They have one-bedroom apartments that have everything that you need in them. They have laundry in every building and a lot of activities, like bingo and book clubs. They have a dining room, and you can either do your own cooking or use their dining room services at a very reasonable cost. If you want to eat dinner downstairs, it will cost you $4 a person for a meal or you can pay $200 a person and have all three meals a day. The cost of the rental of the apartment includes breakfast. The best thing about this place is that you still are living independently but there’s a caring staff there if you need them, including medical staff 24 hours a day. The community is maintained, very well taken care of, and doesn’t smell of urine. It’s a very nice place.

My mother has actually moved into Lakewood Senior Health Campus. She has been there since the beginning of February. I had a friend whose mother was there, and they recommended it. They have four or five activities every day. They have guest speakers who come in probably once a week. Also once a week, they take their residents out on outings, and of course they are all optional. They have games and that kind of stuff on a daily basis. For each meal, residents have two choices. Pretty much everything they have there got only a little salt, but food was OK. Nothing fantastic. They are all pretty much about the same: not bad, not great. The staff seems to be adequate. They have been quite attentive and responsive. If my mother has to call them, they're right there pretty much every time. We found that the staff to be absolutely fantastic. The only complaint I would have, and it is not much of a complaint, is that it is an older building. It is not completely updated to new, but still it is handicapped accessible and all that. It is just an older building.

My brother picked Lakewood Senior for mom. At first she wasn’t too happy there, but now she's been doing pretty good. She's in a shared room and it not that spacious as I would say. The staff are good, but I think they need to hire more people. Mom said that some foods are good. They do a lot of stuff there like bingo and they go out to different events.

My relative was in here for short term aftercare following a hospital stay. On the plus side, the therapy offered was good and did what it was supposed to do. The nurses, therapists and staff were for the most part nice, friendly and focused on giving excellent care. I liked that pets were allowed to visit regularly, it really lifted the spirits of the residents to see them. On the minus side, the facility seemed a bit short-staffed especially on weekends, and there were a couple of incidents where scheduled care such as hygiene help or bedtime preparation just didn't show up (usually on the weekend when the regular staff was off) - also one incident of a staffer being nasty and rude in response to resident's request. The food was also not very good - a lot of noodle dishes and "mystery meat", looked and tasted like school cafeteria slop. A medical dietary restriction imposed by my relative's doctor was ignored for days and there didn't seem to be options if you did not like the meals, short of having your visitors bring food in to you. The food is the biggest reason why we would hesitate to use this facility again because my relative was really miserable with the meals, compared to the much better quality food and choices at the previous hospital they had been in.

In my personal experience this assisted living home was an excellent place for people who needed a little extra help to live. The staff took extra special care of all of the live in patients all day and all night. I did not experience one problem the whole time my grandpa was there. They had activities there, music, computers, games, and even prizes and drawings. The center also had classes that the live ins could sign up to take, like art, music, computer, sewing, and cooking. Every Wednesday pets were brought in to see the live ins. They called it pet therapy. It really brought a smile and happiness to the live ins. they really do care about the live ins and take great care. It's as if they were a big happy family there. I would definitely and have already, recommended this place to anyone looking or assisted living.
