I visited this facility

The outside of the site is deceptive. It looks nice and clean, but once inside, it's cold, dark, needs a serious upgrading and the staff is rude and nasty. If anyone in this world should receive excellent care are the elderly. How can a person feel good about themselves and allow the elderly to be mistreated as if they are a hinderance? I've researched many nursing homes in the Cleveland area and this place is the absolute worse. Why would the powers that be allow this place to stay open and give the worse care? It's absolutely shameful the staff even has a job. Their time of reaping is coming and they are completely blind to "their time" of becoming old and needy. These elders may not have a lot, but they deserve better loving in the closing days of their life.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My experience with my mother at this facility turned out to be a terrible roller coaster ride that ended in her death. This review is not suggesting they are responsible for her death. However, the events that led to her untimely passing left our family with questions. In the beginning the staff seemed opened to keeping us abreast of her condition. We visited my mom typically twice a day (there are 4 of us). It appeared to be at night when thing were questionable. We questioned her eating habit, her cleanliness and attention to her call button. The staff openly complained about being under staffed, out dated equipment, not enough equipment and staff calling off. The day before my mom passed she received dialysis. She was not answering her phone. When I called they said she was asleep and that her dialysis went well. My brother arrived that evening, called me and said our mother looked on the brink of death. We asked for her to sent to the emergency. They assured us she was fine. That following morning we were gonna take her ourselves. Only to be interrupted from a phone call from the hospital that my mom was in the ER. The staff from The Gateway never called to tell us they sent her to ER. I am sad to write within 48 hours my mom passed. I do not recommend this place to any human or animal. When a staff called to ask where would like to receive flowers for my mother's service, I declined. She said, "Well excuse me." And hung up the phone. How nice was that? And no one called to ask why did we decline the flowers considering a few weeks earlier , they were all chummy in our faces.

I am a friend or relative of resident

The staff is very attentive but a little slow in getting to the resident when the alarms go off. Showers are not done enough. The smell does bother me which is more obvious later in the day. The furniture is in very bad shape, which isn't there fault. Try to be present at least weekly to keep on their toes.

I visited this facility

for one this facility smelled good. a lot of nursing homes has that "old" odor to it. the staff was very friendly. as you enter the facility you see the residents enjoying themselves. it was around lunch time when i entered the facility and the meal looked well presentable and edible.
